Engineering Director

New York, NY +4

We are looking for a front-end-focused Engineering Director with a demonstrated track record of innovative thinking, technical mastery, and mindful leadership beyond the team level. You will work within a collaborative Agile environment, becoming responsible for setting technical direction within the Lifestyle and Entertainment teams, mentoring team leads and other managers, and collaborating with other leaders across the organization in order to meet business objectives in a scalable, integrated, and well-architected fashion. There is an expectation that you will help champion and set technical direction for the bespoke, performance-tuned rendering platform that supports our sites.

About Your Contributions:

  • Mentor and manage reports – both managers and individual contributors – within the Lifestyle and Entertainment wing of the technology organization
  • Partner with senior product owners to plan, staff, and execute on business initiatives
  • Own the lifecycle of particular technical initiatives, from ideation through rollout
  • Research new technologies to solve problems and improve existing systems
  • Maintain our high standards for site performance and platform scalability
  • Drive recruiting efforts for your teams
  • Help lead conversations about the design, architecture, and implementation of our web platform and ancillary systems

About You:

  • 6+ years in a web development position, with at least 2 years of that time in a position of management. The ideal candidate will have experience managing other managers, and have worked on or managed products directly used by the public.
  • High levels of skill with vanilla HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
  • Experience working in multiple front- and back-end technology frameworks in multiple languages. While a background with Java and NodeJS would align with our overall stack, what we’re really looking for is someone who can adapt to new codebases and technologies.
  • The ability to make yourself understood to both technical and non-technical audiences.
