Pittsburgh, PA

Here’s What You’ll Do:

As an entry level ecologist for Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC), you’ll be exposed to a wide variety of clients, markets, and projects driven by today’s complex environmental regulatory landscape. As part of a team of 40 ecologists in Pittsburgh and 120 ecologists nationwide, you will collect data on wetlands, streams, aquatic life, threatened and endangered species, rare plants, and more! You will enter our career model where you aren’t just an assistant but a leader in training. You will learn what data to collect and how to collect it as part of a career model which will take you through leading field teams and eventually into project management and more.

Here’s All You Need:

  • A desire to work outdoors and collect data
  • B.S. in a natural sciences field (e.g., Biology, Environmental Sciences, Ecology)
  • 0-2 years’ professional ecological or biological experience
  • Ability to work as part of a large team of ecological experts who will teach you a wide variety of skills

We have fun! Many of our ecologists develop deep friendships and hang out after work. We have an office-wide social committee which focuses on increasing and improving interaction amongst our employees. From free donuts on Wednesdays to ping pong tournaments to beer exchanges, our social committee does a great job and is looking for help! We have a variety of Employee Resource Groups, such as CEC Community – focused on giving back to the communities in which we work; CEC Ignite – focused on helping professionals early in their careers develop their pathway; CEC iDEA – focused on inclusion, diversity, equality, and acceptance; CEC Women, and more!

We have experts! CEC is consistently ranked as an ENR Top 500 Design Firm. We are looking for people who enjoy using their education and experience to solve difficult technical problems and perform interesting projects. You can accomplish this while working with a team of professionals who are equally motivated to provide high levels of service to our clients and to teach you along the way.

We care about our people! People and Culture are two of the five elements of our strategic plan. When you care about your people, they will want to grow a career with you – that is our goal. CEC offers you a small firm work environment with large firm opportunities. Not only will we help you develop professionally, but will also provide an opportunity to become an owner of the firm and share in its success. We offer a matching 401(k), profit sharing, a performance bonus, company stock, medical dental and vision insurance, short and long term disability, tuition assistance, professional development, and work life balance.
