Division HR Communications Manager

Deerfield, IL

Develop communication strategies, plans, services and deliverables for the Division, Vice President(s) and the VP’s direct reports. Ensures development, production and measurement of internal and external communication materials to achieve departmental objectives while still in synch with corporate objectives. Responsible for deliverables that include, but are not limited to, speeches, video scripts, presentations (Executive Office Review, VP Presentations), newsletter articles (division-wide newsletter), website and internal all-supervisor and all-employee meetings.


Manage local media relations where necessary and serve as a liaison with Corporate Public Affairs. Work directly with in-house and outside designers and printers to develop and produce employee communications. Determine budget and manage costs for projects.


Serve as the communication focal point and delivers communications to employees within the division(s). Provide service of quality and value that facilitates employee communications and supports the development, marketing and promotion of products and services to internal customers and process partners. Partner with Shared Services Organization and delegate tactical functions where applicable.


Defines a structured communications program for employees and provides leadership to create and develop themes, formats, medias and timetable for major programs and presentations and orchestrates from concept to execution. Creates budget and objectives for BU Communications Support Representative.


This position acts as an advisor or consultant to senior management on communications, Organizational Change Management (OCM) issues and strategic initiatives or employee issues. Develop and execute OCM and communication plans for division/corporate initiatives.


Develops and maintains Division's identity program, integrating key messages and visual identifiers and ensure consistency with corporate brand.


Typical internal customers include various contacts in a portion of Caterpillar worldwide operations. External contacts include various customers and vendors throughout worldwide markets. The position works to develop innovative processes or methods to best use resources or technology in meeting the quality goals. The position often confronts complex issues or problems that require careful analysis and diagnosis. Problems are often unique, and solutions can require original approaches. The incumbent may modify existing approaches or develop new solutions. The incumbent establishes and then monitors general policies and guidelines for projects under his/her control to ensure specific, management goals are met and desired results are achieved. Impacts key quality goals including Customer Satisfaction, Continuous Improvement, Timeliness, Accuracy, Efficiency, Cost Savings, Process Quality, etc. The position works to develop innovative processes or methods to best use resources or technology in meeting the quality goals


Basic Qualifications

  • This position requires a college or university degree with a focus on communications, English, HR or related field.
  • 5+ years of job-related experience is required, preferably with HR and/or internal communications experience.
  • Strong writing skills and experience is needed to inform, evoke emotion and drive action on a variety of topics.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required to develop strong relationships inside and outside of HR.
  • Experience in executive communication support and the ability to condense complex messages into clear and concise words that resonate with Caterpillar’s various employee populations.
  • Experience understanding and tailoring messages for a variety of audiences.
  • Expert at developing and implementing internal communications strategy.
  • Experience consulting on communications delivery with a variety of audience types.
  • Strong project management skills with ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet established deadlines.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including hosting Teams meetings.
