Diversity Equity & Inclusion Program Manager

Oakland, CA

The Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Program Manager will support Matson’s DEI efforts by assessing, developing and implementing initiatives and strategies designed to improve DEI at Matson. The DEI Manager will oversee projects, programs and initiatives that advance DEI efforts and will promote awareness and support for Matson’s DEI efforts internally and externally. 


What you’ll do:

  • Researches, develops, recommends, and executes creative strategies to achieve the organization’s long-term DEI objectives to 1) increase diversity and inclusion throughout Matson; 2) help improve diversity and inclusion in our industry; and, 3) promote greater social equity and inclusion in our communities.
  • Reviews current Matson practices and policies to determine if changes are needed to support DEI goals.
  • Collects and analyzes statistical data to evaluate the company’s population in accordance with diversity standards and goals.
  • Develops metrics, analyzes data, and reports on the efficacy of our DEI efforts to guide decisions and future DEI initiatives.
  • Facilitates employee feedback sessions, discussion groups, and/or listening tours. Evaluates key takeaways and outcomes to recommend actionable steps.
  • Partners with HR Operations and HR Managers to craft and implement recruiting and hiring strategies to attract employees from diverse backgrounds.
  • In conjunction with the Learning & Development Manager, develops training for supervisors on company Affirmative Action Plan.
  • Develops annual initiative recommendations to progress toward accomplishment of company DEI objectives.
  • Provides guidance to supervisory and human resources staff in developing objective performance and other employee evaluations and policies.
  • Maintains knowledge of current DEI-related issues, legislation, and corporate best practices.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


You have these skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Thorough understanding of federal, state, and local equal employment opportunity laws and regulations.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.


And these qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field.
  • At least five (5) years of Human Resources with a large organization or commensurate related experience required with at least three years specializing in equal employment opportunity, affirmative action, and diversity programs.


Extra credit if you have:

  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification.
  • Certification in DEI or a related area.
