Dispensary General Manager

Denver, CO

This role reports to the District Manager.  The General Manager (GM) is responsible for the successful daily operation of the dispensary and developing a professional team that is passionate about the cannabis industry. 


Expected to work closely with the Assistant General Manager (AGM) to groom potential leaders for promotion and develop a strong team of excellent management. 


The GM is also responsible for overseeing marketing, promotions and working with other administrative departments to maintain accurate compliance, procedures, and reports as they pertain to the daily operations and financials of the dispensary.


Essential Functions:

  • Work closely with administration to ensure the dispensary is strictly compliant with all Company and State guidelines.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret documents relating to dispensary performance, general business periodicals, professional journals, safety, security and technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
  • Confirm that the physical environment is safe, and that all equipment/software is in good working order and ensuring that all preventative maintenance is performed in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and effectively lead state inspectors through unannounced inspections.
  • Set sales, service, and profit goals and lead staff to exceed them. Utilize the marketing and inventory departments with your ideas to help reach certain sales goals. Think “outside of the box” to succeed within your own store.
  • Conduct ongoing training and development of AGMs to ensure consistent performance and knowledge base of Company SOPs, a high level of education of all marijuana and marijuana-infused products and consumption mechanisms, and best practices for dispensary staff and patient/customers relations. This knowledge will flow to the Budtenders per the AGMs.
  • Be a positive influence and cheerleader to all dispensary staff, and patient/customers.
  • Oversee AGMs and Customer Service Reps to ensure that they are inspiring the staff to deliver the highest level of employee culture and customer service. Ensure that they maintain a standard of excellence within their roles.
  • Manage employees’ performance by observing performance, providing feedback, and giving recognition. Conduct quarterly employee reviews for all employees with the AGM.
  • Assist in all employee and patient/customer conflict resolutions immediately and professionally. Immediately, document and report employee conflicts/resolutions to H.R. and customer conflicts/resolutions to the Operations Manager.
  • Communicate with and coach staff on a regular basis to ensure the dispensary's excellence in service and labor practices within the community.
  • Communicate effectively and in a timely manner with Administration.
  • Fulfill staffing needs and coordinate scheduling, following strict payroll budget guidelines.
  • Control tip payouts and reporting. Submit tip reports to the Accounting department (payroll) on a weekly basis.
  • Oversee inventory management to ensure inventory is consistently accurate, up to date, effectively ordered and replenished. 
  • Ensure that 100% traceability is maintained on the product from reception to sale to customer.
  • Maintain inventory control systems and assist in conducting scheduled inventory audits in accordance with Company and State compliance guidelines to ensure there is no diversion of inventory and effectively respond to discrepancies (zero-shrinkage is required).
  • Maintain accurate records for all necessary documents; including but not limited to: daily cash reconciliations, delivery and inventory manifests, nightly and monthly inventory counts, necessary employee and patient/customer information, log books, inventory adjustments and destruction reports, in accordance with Company and State guidelines.
  • Work with Accounting to create and follow in-store budgets and forecast sales based on principles of retail business and experience. Document financial, inventory and customer trends; maintain sales and expense reports to help create these budgets and forecasts.
  • Share and discuss sales metrics, Profit & Loss performance, financial goals, and other KPIs, on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis with AGMs.
  • Ensure that all GM administrative tasks are complete so that the evening/weekend AGMs and Customer Service Reps can fulfill their specific job roles efficiently. If an AGM needs to cover any GM responsibilities for appropriate reasons, plan accordingly so that the store flow is not negatively affected.
  • Participate in the Company and on-the-job trainings to improve skills, productivity, and promotion candidacy.
  • Serve as a liaison to the local community in planning and attending community events.
  • Complete special assignments and other tasks, as assigned.
