Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role, you will lead the tax department in completing one of our goals of the company: prioritize, simplify, automate & digitalize.


You will lead our technology transformation by working closely with Tax (tax provision and compliance, global tax planning, transfer pricing, regional tax and tax audit defense) and our other business partners. You will be part of Amgen’s tax reporting group in a world class tax department that provides global tax planning, transfer pricing, tax reporting, and tax audit defense for the Company.


The Director will collaborate cross-functionally to deliver automation and simplification solutions. This role will lead organizational change including training the solution users, training the reviewers on how to review and ensure the solutions are complete. Automations will generally be within the tax function and you will have a basic understanding of tax or finance to understand the needs and design a solution.


As a Director Tax youwill:

  • Develop, plan, and manage automation and simplification initiatives for the tax function, including all current and future technology changes, in partnership with the digital technology innovation function and continuous improvement function to prototype, develop, test, and implement new tax technology solutions
  • Identify future technology needs, including opportunities for process improvements, automation, efficiency gains, and application of process and technology best practices
  • Provide leadership and guidance on end-to-end transfer pricing automations, further adoption of Alteryx, Tableau and Bots, efficient utilization of ERP systems including SAP S4/HANA, etc
  • Develop and deliver end user training and maintain user documentation of all tax technology
  • Lead development of automation solutions to ensure compliance with new tax laws such as Pillar 2 and public CBCR data
  • Ensure compliance, controls, security and sustainability remain forefront in solution implementations
  • Leading, mentoring, developing staff and setting strategic direction
  • Integrate a whole company mentality in Amgen's tax department automations - support and collaborate multi-functionally
  • Supporting the Tax Reporting, Tax Planning, Regional Tax, Transfer pricing and Tax Audit groups as needed

Basic Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree and 4 years of relevant income tax experience
  • Or Master’s degree and 7 years of relevant income tax experience
  • Or Bachelor’s degree and 9 years of relevant income tax experience


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated tenured Big 4 accounting firm and/or large multinational corporation experience
  • SCRUM certification
  • Demonstrated experience with extract, load, transform & report technologies (ie Alteryx, Tableau, UiPath, etc.)
  • Experience with SAP and BW, Hyperion, EDW applications
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional team environment with multiple senior levels of management
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Diligent and excellent analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Confident ability in dealing with all levels of management within the organization
  • Ability to work independently
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic

SALARY RANGE: 177,571.00 USD - 205,339.00 USD
