Director, Tax Reporting

The Paramount Tax Department is seeking an established director level tax professional for the Company’s film production business unit. This includes leading all facets of day-to-day federal, corporate and partnership income tax compliance and activities supporting the tax accounting and reporting function. Additionally, responsibilities include providing peripheral support to the department’s international and state practice areas.

 

The Tax Director will lead all aspects of federal income tax operations of a major film production business unit within the organization. This position will partner with all levels of personnel from all income tax practice areas within the Tax department as well as key financial personnel from the business unit.

 

Success in this role is dependent on the application of expertise in federal tax law gained through Big 4 experience within the media and entertainment industry, strong process management skills, effective communication and interpersonal skills and a hands-on approach to task completion when required. This role will report to the Vice President, Federal Tax Compliance and the Senior Director of Tax Reporting and Planning.

 

Overview & Responsibilities

  • Manage the tax compliance calendar for the group
  • Review all federal, corporate and partnership tax returns for the business unit group
  • Coordinate the preparation and review of quarterly taxable income estimates for both tax compliance and tax reporting purposes
  • Act as point person for various financial reporting contacts within the business unit
  • Conduct research to determine tax treatment of contemplated and actual corporate transactions, and document in memoranda to files
  • Liaise with the Tax Reporting Group to determine the tax accounting treatment of such transactions
  • Run the analysis and reconciliation of the business unit’s gross temporary differences (a key SOX control)
  • Serve as primary contact for providing federal audit support (i.e., data supporting IDR responses) as needed
  • Partner with the departmental income tax practice areas (federal, state, international) on ad hoc issues to understand and address tax implications
  • Mentor and coach members of your team
  • Oversight and management of other special projects and tasks as needed


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; Master’s degree in Taxation from an accredited university preferred; Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Minimum of 7 plus years of experience with at least 5 years in a Big 4 Firm servicing Media and Entertainment clients; strong technical tax knowledge including demonstrated expertise as a tax subject matter expert specifically related to the media and entertainment industry
  • A solid knowledge of US tax technical matters as they relate to corporate and partnership tax law

  • Adept at prioritization, responsiveness and understanding sense of urgency in a timeline driven environment

  • Solid working knowledge of various tax software and research platforms
