Director, Software Engineering

The Director, Software Engineering, will be responsible for setting a clear software engineering vision for the future of digital advertising technology at iHeart, developing software engineering tools, processes and solution architectures to achieve this vision and execute the roadmap. This technology leader will work with stakeholders from the iHeart business teams and IHeart IT teams to implement and deliver platforms and APIs at scale and with high availability. Successful execution of this role will combine software application development experience, performance engineering, software integration skills, vendor management and people development.

                                                                                                    

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and development of and contribute to the global enterprise vision for advertising systems.
  • Lead all DevOps activities for advertising platforms: requirements analysis, systems analysis, solution architecture, technical design, coding, unit testing, test automation, regression testing, performance testing, environment provisioning, 3rd level support, production and test deployments, CI/CD pipeline automation.
  • Provide technical thought leadership in scrum teams, optimize technical decisions to maximize scrum team velocity and support business teams in all aspects of backlog prioritization.
  • Establish strong partnerships with business teams and other IT teams (enterprise architecture, information management, operations, security).
  • Contribute to make/buy decisions and vendor selection activities.
  • Develop team members (career, training) to achieve excellent employee satisfaction metrics.
  • Keep track of innovation, technology trends and standards in relevant industries.
  • Understand product roadmaps for key technology vendors and ensure that we are driving and aligning where appropriate.
  • Ensure high levels of operational discipline and high availability for advertising systems.
  • Establish strong IT service management, monitoring and capacity planning competencies.
  • Create a data-driven culture with high standards of operational excellence and continuous improvement.


Qualifications:

  • Ability to articulate a technology vision and execute that vision leveraging cloud, microservices and APIs, open source, agile, and performance engineering.
  • Ability to design, build and operate a fully automated CI/CD pipeline, from code checking to production deployment.
  • Ability to code, design and lead development teams to produce error free software, meeting functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Ability to leverage cloud environments, both Iaas and PaaS.
  • Ability to leverage open source software to reduce/eliminate software licensing costs.
  • Ability to hire top talent and build coherent and well-organized team with focus on exceeding employee satisfaction.
  • Ability to lead a distributed engineering team and manage peers through influence.
  • Project and program management, planning and organizational skills.


Education and Experience:

  • B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology/Systems or a related technical field is required
  • 8+ years leading software delivery teams and delivering software in an agile organization.
  • 8+ years using cloud IaaS or PaaS products (AWS/Google experience is a plus).
  • Demonstrated track record of hiring and retaining excellent software engineers.
  • Demonstrated experience building distributed horizontally scalable enterprise systems
