About the right team member

This design leader will play a key role in almost every aspect of the product lifecycle, from research, ideation, conceptualization to implementation. Design wireframes, task flows, prototypes and specifications for creating and enhancing the look, feel, experience and functionality of features and services for our products. Work collaboratively and build partnerships with different teams across the organization including marketing, user research, content strategy, product management, and product development in order to effectively problem solve. Give and solicit feedback from designers and cross-disciplinary partners. Communicate and present to key stakeholders regarding user needs and design solutions. Inspire others and be a part of the transformation to continue delivering strong, sustainable growth for our customers and our business. 

 

We're looking for a passionate, and driven Design Director to support innovation, growth, and manage/mentor a team of designers across design initiatives across ClassPass and Mindbody mobile and web products. In this role, you will be an advocate for the voice of the customer and partner with cross-functional leadership throughout the end-to-end consumer experience. You will work across the organization to scale coherent user experiences across the ecosystem, including user research, content strategy, product management, and product development. As a key partner to the organization, you will help set the vision, and long-term strategy and set up processes to drive collaboration, alignment, and manage relationships with other key stakeholders to deliver the best-in-class design solutions. You will inspire others and be a part of the transformation to continue delivering strong, sustainable growth for our customers and our business.. 


Key Responsibilities

  •  Manage the design team, translating company goals into design priorities, defining effective cross-team workflows, and ensuring that designers are happy and motivated 
  • Collaborative leadership style with the ability to lead and mentor teams of designers with a “player/coach” mentality—balancing team leadership (70%) and hands-on product design (30%) 
  • Lead teams through ambiguity while guiding both seasoned and junior designers in identifying a strategic design vision and laying the groundwork (stakeholder buy-in, resourcing, unblocking) from ideation through delivery  
  • Ability to work across organizational boundaries, domains, to promote the value of a user-centered product development approach (without damaging engagement or retention) 
  • Recruit, mentor and grow a team of amazing creative talent 
  • Excellent communication, design presentation skills, with the ability to build relationships and create alignment with stakeholders and leadership. 
  • Elevate, build, and extend design and brand systems to drive brand quality and consistency at scale 
  • Ensure aesthetic consistency and best-in-class interaction design throughout all customer touchpoints 
  • Demonstrate creative thought leadership, providing proactive inspiration and recommendations, actively participate in strategic initiatives on behalf of the Product Design team 
  • Great with feedback and turning performance results and insights into actionable optimizations 
  • Fostering a strong culture of design operations 


Requirements

  •  Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Design, HCI, Human Factors, Design Strategy or a design-research related field 
  • 10+ years of experience in Product Design 
  • 5+ years of experience in people management, leading UX teams, hiring, scaling, mentoring, and motivating teams. 
  • A portfolio with exceptional design sensibility, attention to detail, strong visual and interaction design 
  • Demonstrated ability to turn ambiguous design problems into concrete and thoughtful solutions 
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and data skills, with the ability to build relationships and create alignment with stakeholders and leadership 
  • Experience leading teams through ambiguity and organizational transformations. 
  • Strong systems thinking skills with an understanding of complex features with experience in brand and design systems 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in high-productivity environments 
  • Excellence with Figma, Sketch, Adobe CS (or related applications) 
  • Fluent with prototyping tools such as Figma, Framer, Protopie, Principle (or related applications) 
  • Familiarity with coding is a plus
