Director of Operational Compliance

Philadelphia, PA

This position can be based at any of the company’s East Coast facilities (Philadelphia, PA; Branchburg, NJ; Baltimore, MD; or Boston, MA areas).

The Director of Operational Compliance takes a leadership role in overseeing onsite compliance and managing a team of compliance officers across the company’s East Coast cultivation/manufacturing facilities. Qualified candidates will have several years' experience as a regulatory compliance leader in the cannabis industry, specifically in cultivation/manufacturing operations.


A demonstrated track record implementing and maintaining a complex compliance program for Consumer Packaged Goods ("CPG") facilities—including developing standard operating procedures, tracking product inventory, and leading internal audits—is required.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages a team of onsite compliance managers at cultivation/manufacturing facilities along the East Coast.
  • Creates and implements standard operating procedures (“SOPs”), internal processes, and compliance training for cultivation and manufacturing staff.
  • Develops internal audit procedures for all business entities in various states and localities.
  • Conducts regular, random internal audits of facility operations and prepares written reports to senior management.
  • Ensures appropriate tracking of inventory and waste through various seed-to-sale software programs (BioTrack, METRC, MJ Freeway).
  • Helps prepare for facility inspections, government regulatory investigations, and external audits.
  • Reviews government investigation findings, and assists with preparing and implementing corrective action plans.
  • Assists with remedial action to address gaps in facility operational compliance and mitigate future risks.
  • Drafts official communications and assists with responses to government agencies and other regulatory bodies.
  • Reviews and approves packaging and labeling designs for cultivated and manufactured products.
  • Partners with operational leads to ensure record-keeping and security requirements are met at every facility.
  • Monitors changes to cannabis laws, regulations, and industry guidance in various states and municipalities.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • A minimum 3-5 years' compliance experience in cannabis or other highly-regulated industry.
  • Experience in cannabis seed-to-sale software programs required (BioTrack, METRC, MJ Freeway).
  • Ability and willingness to regularly travel to facilities throughout the U.S. required.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Specific experience in cannabis cultivation/manufacturing operations strongly preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to remain in a stationary position, move and/or position oneself, communicate, operate and/or prepare, place, position objects, tools, or controls. The employee must occasionally move packages weighing up to 25 lb. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close observation and the ability to adjust focus. Working Environment:

Work is performed in a warehouse environment. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
