The Mobile Platform team builds, evolves and ships Upwork’s hybrid mobile app platform, allowing the product engineers to launch their experiences from day one using the same codebase. We blend the boundaries between native and web technologies and ultimately seek to deliver an experience that can rival purely native apps while improving code reusability, feature parity and product execution speed.

In this role, you will lead a team of hardworking engineers, evolving Upwork’s mobile platform. You will be responsible for driving architecture, execution / resource planning, and high quality product features delivery. You will partner cross functionally to ensure that patterns & strategies built within the company align with industry best practices in developing mobile and desktop apps. You are someone who is proficient with agile methodologies and can optimally manage the delivery of multiple scrum teams. You love to solve sophisticated problems and don’t hesitate to play other functional roles as the need arises.

Your Responsibilities:

Co-lead the company's mobile app strategy.
Provide technical and people leadership to our mobile engineers developing Upwork’s iOS, Android and desktop app platforms.
Enable and coordinate a mobile app first approach across infrastructure and product engineering teams.
Identify and address our mobile apps’ customer needs and opportunities. These include page transition speed, hybrid/native UI/UX exploration, push notification optimization, and more.
Drive timely delivery and execution of key projects while maintaining high quality and site uptime
Hire, manage, and grow our remote talent workforce.

What it takes to catch our eye:

Hands-on experience in engineering management with a focus on mobile app development.
Hands-on experience and knowledge of iOS or Android development.
Experience in web (or hybrid app) development using modern JavaScript frameworks like Vue, React, or Angular.
Experience building hybrid apps using WebViews.
Leading engineering teams across multiple time zones.
