Director of Communications

New York, NY

As Director of Communications for our food brands at Dotdash Meredith, you will help lead public relations for our culinary brands (Allrecipes, EatingWell, FOOD & WINE, Liquor.com, Serious Eats, TheSpruceEats) by developing and executing strategies to amplify media exposure across channels and underscore our authority in the culinary world, showcasing our deep knowledge and expertise across food, cooking, restaurants, wine, cocktails, hospitality and entertaining. You will work hand in hand with our experts, Editor in Chiefs, and PR teams to secure media coverage and produce monthly reports. You will also have well-established relationships with media and a deep list of press contacts in the food and lifestyle space. 

 

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working with culinary brands, a deep understanding of how to leverage food-related content and identify newsworthy stories, knowledge of the food, restaurant, and wine industries, a strong sensibility for creating dynamic user experiences, and the ability to work across cross-functional teams. The goal of this position is to build greater awareness of our food brands to drive interest and engagement among consumers as well as within the culinary industry. About Your Contributions: 

  • Create comprehensive communications strategies for each brand that identify key narratives, collaboration opportunities and tentpole moments and outline news/content press angles, short- and long-term tactics, and target outlets/audiences.
  • Develop and manage trusted ongoing relationships with reporters and producers in order to successfully place newsworthy stories and book brand talent in top tier media
  • Manage press strategy and execution for brand-led events, both virtually and in-person
  • Create and manage editorial calendars, events, awards, conferences and speaker opportunities spokespeople
  • Assesses media opportunities to maximize return on investment of time and resources
  • Respond to media inquiries in a timely and appropriate manner; write and distribute news releases, as well as media alerts and other press-related materials
  • Collaborate with the food content teams to create and amplify best-in-class content experiences that showcase our editorial specials, experts and brand representatives
  • Work with brand spokespeople to prepare them for media interviews, shoots, appearances
  • Develop an ongoing relationship with the Research and Data Science teams to conceive of and execute on dynamic data-driven content
  • Partner across the Dotdash Communications Team and collaborate with the Earned Marketing team to deliver concise and informative reporting on press activities, coverage secured and current opportunities for the brands


About You:

  • 7+ years of work experience in food media
  • Excellent project management skills, attention to detail, ability to multitask, and verbal/written communication skills.
  • Strong editorial skills and keen sense of how to make our editorial specials linkable and shareable.
  • A self-starter who can develop scrappy solutions to solve challenges impeding your roadmap.  
  • Exceptional media relations skills as demonstrated by earned media placements
