As our first Legal Operations, Director, you will be a founding member of our Legal Operations team. We are seeking a legal operations professional who has a strong background in contract management, contract negotiation, building processes and supporting a growing legal team. In this role, you will report directly to the Head of Commercial Legal. The ideal candidate will be able to support the Legal team in partnership with internal collaborators across the organization and will help develop the Legal team's internal processes, systems, and tools while demonstrating strong skills for working across functions.


Responsibilities:

  • Implement and manage the processes and technologies that enable Gem’s Legal team to operate effectively on foundational matters like contracting, task tracking, records management, and other team needs (e.g., vendor/firm relationships and renewals)
  • Negotiate customer and inbound contracts such as subscription agreements and NDAs
  • Manage the contracts lifecycle process for all agreements reviewed by the Legal team; maintain contract repository—including document processing, electronic signatures, electronic filing, scanning, and light data processing—ensuring all contracts are properly tracked, executed, and filed appropriately
  • Develop Legal team knowledge management system; manage training; create templates/forms for most routine matters; create and manage Slack channels, workflows, and other mechanisms for Legal team service; create guides and other assets to support the legal support process and provide opportunities for self-service
  • Manage government registrations and annual reports, including information gathering, reporting, and record-keeping
  • Support responses to data requests, subpoenas, or other document requests in relation to legal processes
  • Tackle special research projects and other duties as requested by members of the Gem Legal team


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required; paralegal, legal management, or legal operational certificate from an accredited program preferred; graduate or juris doctorate degree a plus;
  • 7+ years of experience with legal operations and project management at a law firm or in-house law department;
  • Detailed-oriented, self-starter, problem-solver, strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills;
  • Demonstrated abilities in operational excellence, to independently and collaboratively track and move projects forward while adapting to changing priorities;
  • Ability to organize, think critically, strategically and tactically, meet deadlines yet remain flexible in a dynamic multi-task and fast-paced environment;
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills with internal stakeholders, outside vendors, and other parties;
  • Strong experience in researching, implementing and using legal department technology tools;
  • Experience with project management, records management and e-billing systems;
