Director Legal Counsel

Day In The Life:

The Bay is seeking a lawyer to cover a one year maternity leave with at least four to five years of corporate-commercial experience at a reputable law firm and/or as an in-house counsel The successful candidate will be expected to draft, review, and negotiate contracts related to many aspects of the retail business, provide strategic and proactive advice on a wide variety of issues, serve as the legal lead for cross-functional projects and advise on policy matters. In collaboration with The Bay's cross-functional teams, the Director, Legal Counsel will be entrusted to provide day-to-day counsel as well as recommendations on policies/compliance protocols to protect The Bay, its customers, employees, and third party partners.

What You Will Do:

Draft, review and negotiate a wide variety of commercial agreements, including technology, supply chain/logistics, FinTech, information security and other operational and vendor agreements
Provide strategic advice and guidance to stakeholders regarding business and legal issues and risks across a wide range of portfolios including supply chain, technology, digital, financial services and marketplace
Advise on regulatory compliance and corporate governance matters
engage in and serve as the legal lead on various company-wide projects and initiatives
issue-spot sensitive legal and business concerns within complex deals and coordinate with cross-functional teams to minimize risk
Improve the Legal Department’s database of template agreements and participate in the expansion and oversight of the contract management process
Provide substantive support for the rest of the Legal team on an as-needed basis

What You Will Need:

At least –4-5 years of corporate-commercial experience at a reputable law firm and/or as an in-house counsel (ideally a retail environment)
Must be a member in good standing of the bar
Strong communication skills, ability to present clear, practical and business-oriented legal advice
Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and to adapt quickly to changing priorities
Highly self-motivated and proactive; eager to take ownership over work product and able to advance work independently
Team-oriented; demonstrates a commitment to shared success
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to develop collaborative relationships at all levels in the organization
Strong analytical and problem solving skills combined with attention to detail and thoroughness
Excellent organizational skills and capability to effectively manage priorities while meeting timelines
