Director, Internal Communications

The Director, Global Internal Communications is a US-based global key contributor on the Communications team, reporting to the VP Global Communications and Corporate Affairs, with dotted reporting to the VP Global Human Resources.


The Global Communications team is lean and agile, and the new Director plays a critical role on the team and in delivering our ambition of building an inclusive, values-based culture where everyone can bring their best selves to work and thrive.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Planning and Execution

  • Develops and executes the annual internal global communications strategy, calendar of campaigns and activations and key corporate initiatives.
  • Develops and implements integrated communications programs across corporate and HR-related functions, including business transformation and IT/technology, diversity equity and inclusion, employee engagement, HR communications, ESG and sustainability communications and executive communications.
  • Provides guidance and direction on strategic communications methods, collaborates with Leadership Team, functional leaders, HR and Communications teams to deliver strategic plans and coordinated stories while also balancing changing priorities and competing interests. Agile, nimble and flexible. Creates annual plans and calendars for engagement that deliver meaningful, relevant and impactful communications that drive employee engagement, inclusion and belonging.
  • Strategically utilize a variety of communications vehicles to target internal audience via the best channel and cadence.
  • Regularly evaluate employee communications and engagement activities; recommend opportunities for improvements to effectively reach employees and manage volume of information they receive.
  • Anticipates and provides support for employee-facing communications needs around major internal or external events and activities that may arise.
  • Runs point on quarterly Global Town Hall Webcasts, including agenda drafting, video/other asset development, managing script collection, securing award nominations, Q&A recommendations, speaker preparation, logistics, post-event survey; in collaboration with other team members.
  • Collaborates as needed on other Town Hall meetings and leadership calls conducted via Microsoft Teams Live.
  • Liaises with IT on technical issues including Distribution Lists, webcasts, etc.


Content Creation

  • Creates materials to support executive and other corporate communications including print, video and digital presentations, scripts, emails, event/engagement briefing documents and show flows, timelines and roadmaps, best-in-class playbooks, FAQs, fact sheets. 
  • Reviews, revises and develops communications to all employees and distributions; disseminate via email and share on Workplace as needed.
  • Develops regular and periodic communications to global employees (e.g., Wella Wire Newsletter).
  • Expertise in strategic and creative concepting, writing, editing and production of all content – all channels including podcasts, video storytelling, etc.
  • Maintains expertise in company key messaging and ensures messaging is current, relevant and coordinated across the Global Communications Teams’ geographic regions and markets.

  • Operates collaboratively and courageously especially in times of high pressure and tight turnarounds. Speed and quality not compromised remaining calm under pressure.
  • Strong influencing skills and ability to work across functions and geographies building relationships and partnerships, becoming a trusted advisor and expert source for colleagues and agency partner teams.
  • Critical thinking ability to connect the dots and synthesize the messaging to deliver meaningful impact to employees globally.
  • Team player, self-motivated and proactive.
  • Astute digital skills, social media acumen and ability to deliver superb omnichannel execution.
  • Technically oriented and skills to direct Microsoft Office 365, Adobe Creative Suite.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 8-10 years experience in employee and internal communications and public relations. Strong background in communications writing and editing. Strong preference for global experience.
  • In-house corporate experience on a high-performance team delivering exceptional output with lean team support. Agility to operate, pivot and sense and respond to multiple priorities.
  • Creative and conceptual thinker who can ideate and has high EQ to both read a room and interpret with empathy for the employee population.
  • Experience engaging a broad cross-section of stakeholders globally.
  • Strong executive presence and ability to gain confidence and trust of senior leaders.
  • A great storyteller with exceptional attention to impactful delivery of content and engagement that motivates, connects and empowers.
  • Knowledge and experience directing HR related topics and programs from employee engagement surveys to Global Town Halls.
  • Strategic event planning and execution experience.
  • Keen knowledge of video and podcast production, webcasts, Microsoft Teams Live, meetings
  • Direction and leadership of agency partners, management of budgets, timelines.
  • Love for beauty and enthusiast with related experience such as retail, consumer goods, media, luxury, etc.
