Director, Health & Safety

Bradford, ON

Reporting into the VP Operations, the Director of Health, Safety and Environment will provide strategic leadership in the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of Aurora’s Health, Safety and Environment program. 


MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, implement, and oversee corporate HSE program, polices and priorities. Effectively communicate HSE program and strategies and provide training and support to facilities to implement program. Ensure program is compliant with current Federal and provincial regulatory requirements
  • Establish a culture of safety throughout the organization to reduce injuries and incidents through:
  • Training, coaching and mentoring of team members at all levels, on the program, strategies and tools to ensure understanding and compliance to program
  • Creating a culture which translates into each employee demonstrating a genuine commitment to their own safety and that of each and every colleague
  • Auditing of program and facilities to identify of opportunities for improvement
  • Support the robust investigation of incidents to identify root cause and implementation of corrective actions and timely closure of investigations
  • Statistical analysis of incidents and events and identification of leading indicators
  • Provide HSE expertise for the startup of new equipment and processes
  • Development of return to work strategies to reduce LTI, coordination of case management covering occupational and non-occupational injuries or illnesses with the appropriate HR team members, including review of medical evidence, rehabilitation efforts, graduated or light-duty return to work initiatives and requests for accommodation
  • Support the JHSC committee and safety reps
  • Ensure proper management of records of training, safety audits, licenses
  • Other duties as assigned

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong leadership, communication and influencing skills, and ability to navigate across the organization
  • Ability to engage and excite diverse teams to identify common goals, drive consensus and change
  • Exceptional change management skills adopting and implementing tools and programs
  • Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel is required

 

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

  • Degree in OH&S, with 7-10 years of experience leading and managing and HSE program in a manufacturing environment
  • CSP/CRSP designation and asset
  • Prior experience designing and implementing an HSE program
  • Extensive understanding and knowledge of provincial and federal health and safety guidelines, especially in BC, AB, and ON
