Director, Content & Social Media

Irvine, CA

Weedmaps is seeking a highly motivated, innovative and results-driven Director of Content & Social Media who will lead a team of dedicated experts with the shared goals of serving our customers, driving business growth, and creating online communities through expertise, great content, and spirited engagement. We are looking for a leader with a deep understanding of content management and social media including emerging social platforms, content management systems, performance tools like social listening, and with experience developing tactics for the delivery of successful content and multi-channel social strategies in the cannabis industry. This role is responsible for ideating, curating, planning, developing and executing on the vision for our content and social media strategy, uncovering insights, driving and sharing results, and leading our passionate content & social media team.


The impact you'll make:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive content and social media strategy that aligns with the company's overall business objectives
  • Create and manage a content calendar to ensure a consistent flow of high-quality, relevant, and engaging content across all social media platforms
  • Help manage the company's brand voice, tone, and messaging
  • Lead the creation and production of a wide range of content including, but not limited to, blog posts, videos, infographics, and social media posts
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, product, and sales, to ensure content is consistent and relevant
  • Monitor and analyze the performance of content and social media campaigns, and make data-driven recommendations for improvement
  • Stay up-to-date on industry trends and emerging technologies to identify new opportunities to reach and engage with target audiences
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices and the ability to optimize content for search engines
  • Build and manage a strong online community through social media engagement and community management
  • Utilize gathered insights to make regular recommendations on strategic shifts in content production and planning
  • Manage a team of content and social media managers, providing mentorship, guidance, and support as needed
  • Develop platform-specific content that's in alignment with WM strategic initiatives


What you've accomplished:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field
  • 10+ years of experience in content marketing and social media, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
  • Deep understanding of the cannabis industry and the unique challenges and opportunities it presents
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with a proven ability to produce high-quality content across a variety of formats
  • Experience using social media management tools such as Hootsuite, Sprout Social, and Buffer
  • Experience with content management systems (CMS) and basic HTML
  • Excellent project management skills and the ability to lead cross-functional teams to successful outcomes
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to use data to inform decisions
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices and the ability to optimize content for search engines
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Passion for the cannabis industry and a commitment to producing content that is both engaging and educational
  • Critical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making
  • Cannabis industry/product knowledge; the ability to speak to common cannabis topics (strains, cannabinoid, terpenes, etc.)


The base pay range for this position is: $185,000.00 - $231,000.00
