Director, Compensation

The Director, Compensation leads the compensation center of excellence, providing proactive consulting and guidance to the executive team and internal clients which enables stakeholders to make informed and data-driven compensation decisions across North America. This role, in partnership with the Head of Total Rewards, will define the compensation philosophy and policies for the North American KMBS organization. The Director, Compensation will define and be accountable for the development, implementation, communication and administration of equitable and innovative compensation programs and policies. Programs and policies may incorporate job architecture, pay structures, short and long-term incentives, reward and recognition programs, benchmarking and survey analyses, emerging trends, new technologies and compensation training.

Essential Job Functions

  • Define compensation strategies, programs, policies, and philosophies, collaborating with the Head of Total Rewards to finalize senior management approvals.
  • Manage the professional development, performance management, and technical expertise of team members
  • Manage a variety of vendor relationships including outsourced technical and market pricing support
  • Lead assigned compensation projects, including but not limited to project plan development, collaborating with HRBPs to evaluate business needs, and proactive communication with project stakeholders
  • Ensure the compensation team’s project milestones are achieved and customer expectations are met through superior customer service
  • Design and implement compensation policies, programs and plans and supporting service level agreement (SLA) with various stakeholders to manage expectations and deliverables
  • Build strong, trusted relationships with key internal stakeholders and executives 
  • Proactively recommend plan, policy and process changes to meet the strategic business needs of the Konica Minolta Business Solutions organization.
  • Manage the development, design and maintenance of the job description and evaluation process in partnership with HR Business Partners, Talent Acquisition and line managers. 
  • Ensure accurate job documentation, salary market competitiveness and internal equity for Company positions.
  • In conjunction with executive leadership and finance, manage Company short-term incentive programs, ensure quarterly calculations are accurate and paid timely.
  • Conduct in-depth market pricing analyses using market pricing tools and salary survey data for highly confidential projects
  • Provide insightful observations and recommendations based on market data which the business can use to meet the strategic objectives of the company
  • Counsel HRBPs and business leaders regarding compensation policies and procedures
  • Use deep analytical/problem-solving skills to monitor effectiveness of compensation plans, policies and administrative procedures
  • Working in conjunction with training and communication SMEs, create content and learning programs to facilitate organizational understanding of compensation philosophy and programs. 

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • Demonstrated quantitative aptitude and analytical problem-solving skills. 
  • Strong foundation in finance and financial analysis with the ability to model multiple scenarios and alternative options.
  • Basic understanding of accounting and income tax principles.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and collaboration skills to include varied perspectives (including the employee) and voices into recommended solutions.
  • Experienced project management and delivery leader, able to effectively deliver results through others.
  • Team leadership skills that include evaluating team member capabilities, hold others accountable to a high delivery standard, identifying skill gaps, and designing professional development plans to close gaps.
  • Ability to communicate in a clear, informative style and present numerical data effectively across all levels of management. Understands and incorporates the impact of compensation plans on business cash flows, equity, and corporate results.
  • A consultative approach toward clients and the ability to build strong relationships and influence others is critical for success in this role.
  • Ability to work with and teach others’ to use relational databases to store, access, compile, upload and report data relative to compensation.
  • Expert proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Possess high degree of professionalism and ability to maintain confidentiality.

Experience, Educational Reqts and Certifications

  • BA or BS degree required with additional CCP and/or MBA preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of progressively more complex compensation analysis experience
  • Minimum 5 years of developing and managing compensation analysts
  • Demonstrated expertise developing job descriptions, FLSA determination and job matching/leveling to ensure compliance with company policies, EEOC, FLSA and other regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience with development and administration of pay grades and salary structures to support corporate compensation philosophy and meet corporate financial objectives
  • Experience using a broad array of industry available tools to stay informed regarding market trends and benchmarks (e.g. PayFactors, WillisTowersWatson, Radford surveys)
