Director, Communications

New York, NY

LeafLink is seeking an experienced, analytical, and driven Director of Communications to own, build, and deliver a broad set of communications efforts, including PR, Executive Communications, and Internal Communications. In this role, you’ll create a PR strategy, ensuring strong awareness and perception of the LeafLink brand, and our full platform offerings (Marketplace, Logistics, Payments). Additionally, you’ll work to craft and land relevant narratives through executive channels, such as event keynotes, thought leadership, social media, and more. Finally, you’ll manage marquee internal communications efforts, driving employee engagement and north star orientation. Across all these efforts, you’ll measure, learn, and share insights and best practices from your efforts.

You will play a key role on our marketing leadership team, and work in close partnership with other cross-functional partners, such as Product, Go-To-Market/Sales, Government Relations, Social Impact, and our Executive team.

The role requires curiosity, creativity, and urgency. You’ll help write the playbook, rather than inherit one. You must be comfortable moving quickly and dealing with a significant amount of ambiguity.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Craft and land creative, poignant narratives through multiple channels/outlets that advance the overarching business goals
  • Set short- and long-term targets/goals; monitor your progress toward them, and share outcomes along the way
  • Own the strategy and execution of all aspects of PR, driving reach and awareness through tech, business, and cannabis industry outlets
  • Leverage your extensive existing relationships with national, tech-related, and/or industry-specific press outlets
  • Act as a spokesperson for LeafLink as needed, and help prepare leaders and employees for media-facing opportunities
  • Craft event keynotes for marquee speaking opportunities, and prepare speakers for their presentations
  • Supplement existing internal comms efforts with new, engaging forums and cadences to educate, engage, and excite employees
  • Own and drive updates for a calendar of major cross-company initiatives
  • Manage agency and contractor relationships as needed
  • See around corners, anticipating market trends and keeping a strong pulse on the tech and cannabis industries

The ideal candidate is…

  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, high-growth, complex environment
  • Excited about the potential of wholesale cannabis, with a passion for creating an equitable industry
  • Data-driven, and understands how to measure their work, and connect it to broader business/company goals
  • A strong owner who finds creative solutions to solving challenges and making things happen
  • A compelling storyteller, writer, and presenter who sees the angle within the noise and delivers messages flawlessly across many mediums
  • Self-motivated, driven, and excited by the potential to own what you do
  • Highly organized, with an innate attention to detail and a tidy approach to communications
  • A natural connector who brings a strong network of national, tech, and/or cannabis press contacts
  • A strong communications generalist who can switch between building strategy to executing efficiently - from editing to writing, and project managing to pitching

What You’ll Bring to the Team

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 10+ years of B2B tech PR experience, ideally with both in-house and agency experience
  • A robust set of relationships with national, tech, and/or cannabis media
  • Proven experience building, delivering, and measuring a broad portfolio of PR and Comms programs
  • Experience building strong working relationships with internal stakeholders, customers, and senior executives
  • A compelling, creative portfolio of past storytelling and presentation examples
  • A successful history of agency management
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to shift gears quickly and effectively
