Director, Animal Health ESG Communications

Attention NJ Applicants: In April 2020, our Company announced plans to consolidate our New Jersey campuses into a single New Jersey headquarters location in Rahway, NJ by 2023. Therefore, the NJ work location for this role will be temporarily based and the exact timing of the departmental move to Rahway, NJ will be communicated at a future date.


The ESG Animal Health Communications lead is responsible for coordinating global animal health efforts to support our Corporate ESG priorities. 


The lead will develop and implement an awareness and engagement plan for internal and external stakeholders that demonstrates Animal Health’s ESG-related priorities and efforts: namely Environmental Sustainability and Social Focus. The lead will be responsible for developing an innovative and measurable global outreach program to inform both customers and employees that demonstrates Animal Health’s progress against these pillars. This position will serve as the leader of a steering committee across all Animal Health functions to ensure Animal Health ESG efforts are aligned, measurable and well-coordinated with our Company's Corporate ESG commitments and plans. The role will also support the Animal Health Environmental Task force.


Reporting to the Executive Director, Global Animal Health Communications, this leader will work closely across all relevant business functions (commercial, manufacturing, R&D, policy, etc.) to lead the development of materials that showcase how Animal Health is driving sustainable value for customers, the business and society. This includes identifying and developing Animal Health spokespeople for internal and external engagements.


The lead will represent Animal Health in enterprise-wide ESG forums, such as the Corporate Environmental Sustainability Implementation Team, the EHS Council, Social Business Innovation, and the Corporate Responsibility extended team.


The lead, ESG Communications, must have experience working within a complex, highly visible organization and must be comfortable working with senior leadership. The lead must be adept at connecting and organizing various efforts across the division. 


Scope of work and core responsibilities includes:

  • Development of an external and internal ESG awareness and engagement plan that focuses on Animal Health’s ESG priorities and efforts.
  • Support Animal Health executives with ESG materials for internal and external speaking engagements
  • Provide briefing materials for Animal Health executives and spokespeople related to ESG initiatives and messaging
  • Manage development and execution of materials including website content, fact sheets, message maps, briefings and presentations
  • Coordinate with business leaders to develop scorecards, benchmarks and tracking against Animal Health and our Company's Corporate ESG priorities.
  • Coordinate, gather and collate local, regional and global initiatives supporting Animal Health’s ESG activities for inclusion in corporate and Animal Health communication materials
  • Serve as the Animal Health charitable contributions coordinator and partnering with Finance to ensure charitable contributions, grants, donations, and sponsorships are tracked and compliant.
  • Serve as co-chair of our Company's Animal Health veterinary scholarship program, working with lead Animal Health veterinarians and veterinary societies in the US, Europe across multiple species.
  • Coordinate with Human Health to respond to external NGO requests on Animal Health and our Company's initiatives, including AMR and One Health. 
  • Partner with Global Policy on key Animal Health sustainability issues.


Location: This role is based in Madison NJ and will move to Rahway, New Jersey when the headquarters relocates.


Education Minimum Requirement:

Bachelor’s Degree with 8 or more years of communications experience OR a minimum of a high school diploma with at least 10-12 years of equivalent experience which could include: communications, media, and/or military.  


Position Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 10-12 years of experience in Public Relations, Philanthropy Communications, Executive Communications, or Corporate Communications, with a focus on ESG
  • Technical background with veterinary experience is a plus
  • Superb writing, editing and communications skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and flawless instinct
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills and the proven ability to network within a highly matrixed organization and maintain collaborative relationships
  • Experience working with senior executives
  • Experience working cross-functionally across the enterprise to establish connections and identify issues.
  • Experience managing people and agencies.
  • Because of the global nature of the role, the ability to speak multiple language is desired, with preference to English and Spanish

Final determinations with respect to salary will take into account a number of factors, which may include, but not be limited to the primary work location and the chosen candidate’s relevant skills, experience, and education.


Expected salary range:

$143,100.00 - $243,400.00
