Design Manager

Irvine, CA

TRC Companies is looking for a highly motivated Design Manager. Candidate will be an integral part of the roadway design management team and responsible for project delivery, project staffing and project pursuits. Candidate will have opportunities to continue technical involvement in projects while mentoring junior team members on both technical and project management skills. Candidate will be expected to lead design projects and coordinate with clients in a regular basis.


Job Duties:

  • Expected to lead major complex design tasks while working closely with various Design Leads.
  • Actively manages project scope, schedule and budget. May serves as the primary client contact to bring the schedule, budgets and scope of work to completion and to the client's satisfaction.
  • Manages support staff and coordinates work efforts for the project team.
  • Provide technical expertise on projects associated with preliminary engineering, detailed engineering design, and preparation of construction documents.
  • Writes technical reports and creates presentations of findings that have been presented to a diverse group of clients and the public
  • Develops project scope and fee and assists in the preparation of proposals and contracts.
  • Develops content for technical proposals and letters of interest.
  • Coordinates preparation of design details, plans, and drawings within assigned task areas. Often severs in a quality control/reviewer role.
  • Coordinates the development of design tasks and assists in providing technical direction to the scope of projects
  • Provides senior-level technical expertise associated with preliminary engineering, detailed engineering designs, and preparation of contracts for construction.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Possesses a Bachelor's degree or higher in Civil Engineering.
  • CA Professional Engineering License.
  • 10 or more years as a Project Manager for a transportation/infrastructure focused consulting/engineering firm with project experience in utility, roadway design, bridge structures, design and construction.
  • Project management should include staff management, budget control, mentoring and resource management.
  • Successful track record of Marketing/Business development to new and existing clients.
  • Project experience on highways and/or bridges, municipal, land development, stormwater and/or infrastructure design and construction.
  • Commitment to mentoring and developing junior engineers.
  • Proficiency in Microstation with OpenRoads experience required.
  • Ability to work independently and on a project team.
  • Capability to effectively manage projects.
  • Strong written and oral communications skills required
  • Exercise professional judgment to complete work accurately and in accordance with engineering codes, ethical standards, and sound business practices;
  • Effectively communicate and coordinate with other team members;
  • Manage, coordinate, and communicate schedule and progress on multiple concurrent tasks;
  • Complete work on time and within budget;
