Deal Lead
With the goal of making NBA TV and NBA League Pass ubiquitous on third partner video platforms, this position will focus on strengthening existing distribution partnerships and developing new distribution relationships. Both NBA TV and NBA League Pass are available as video services distributed natively by third parties and on a direct-to-consumer basis. Accordingly, this position will embrace third party distribution partnerships throughout the video distribution ecosystem. The ideal candidate will have the ability to balance business objectives and juggle demanding negotiations. The candidate will help to formulate distribution strategy and represent partner priorities and needs to other internal constituents (e.g., product and content programming teams). Ability to juggle complex problem-solving, communicate clearly and confidently, and be flexible with a positive attitude are all musts for this role. Candidate should have executive presence and mindset, with the ability to roll up sleeves and get into the weeds when necessary.
Major Responsibility:
- Own distribution partner relationships for NBA TV and NBA League Pass
- Develop distribution strategies around NBA TV and NBA League Pass content offerings for distribution partner platforms
- Lead complex negotiations with distribution partners
- Manage existing distribution relationships and develop new relationships with distribution outlets and platforms
- Cultivate strong working relationships and foster collaboration across multiple internal NBA departments, including NBA Digital, Product, Direct-to-Consumer, Global Partnerships, Marketing, Content, International, Production and Programming
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant progressive media experience
- Minimum of 10 years of negotiating complex media distribution deals
- Knowledge of the US media landscape and media technology
- Creative problem-solving abilities and enterprising business development skills
- Strong analytical and negotiating expertise
- Familiarity with legal and technical issues affecting video content distribution
- Network of relationships among media and digital platforms
- Experience dealing with (or advising on) professional sports media issues preferred
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree required
- JD or MBA preferred, but not required
