Data Scientist, Inclusive Product

We are seeking an experienced data scientist who's interested in dealing with questions relating to inclusion, diversity, representation, ethics, and fairness within the product. It is important to us that our product represents all Pinners. To this end, Pinterest is building inclusive features into our product, including our “Skin Tone Ranges” in search and AR try on, which give Pinners the option to refine search results and recommendations by a skin tone range of their choice. The ideal candidate will care deeply about these issues and has an interest in being on the forefront of how we think about building a more inclusive product. You will need to work with a variety of Product teams including Search, Feed, AR, Related Pins, Computer Vision and more. They will interface with high level cross functional stakeholders. You’ll apply quantitative analysis, modeling and data mining to improve our pinners’ experience.


What you’ll do:

  • Develop metrics to measure the diversity and fairness of our product offering across various different surfaces, and help design and evaluate A/B experiments that drive these metrics
  • Build dashboards together with the data pipelines to power them, in order to measure and track product goals
  • Contribute to and validate ML models in the field of Computer Vision to drive an understanding of the content on our platform, and in our ranking models for search and feed products
  • Perform deep dive analysis to help us understand the user journey to help the product team build experiences that encourage action
  • Gain an understanding of the best practices in the areas of inclusion, diversity, representation, ethics, and fairness within product and AI
  • Work cross-functionally to build and communicate key insights, and collaborate closely with product managers and engineers to help build the next Inclusive experience on Pinterest


What we're looking for:

  • 5+ years of industry experience with proven ability to apply scientific methods to solve real-world problems on web-scale data
  • Expert in at least one scripting language (Python/R)
  • Proficient in SQL/Hive
  • Proven ability to perform rigorous data analysis and translate the results into business recommendations
  • You are knowledgeable in one or more of the following: Machine Learning, NLP, Computer Vision, Recommendation Systems, Social Network analysis
