Creative Director

Seattle, WA

Do you possess a passion for brand development and communications, an obsession to make customers happy, and at the same time, an ability to challenge the status quo and solve intrinsically hard problems? Are you excited by the idea of directly influencing the foundation of AWS’s storytelling through keynotes? 


We are looking for a Creative Director, who will be responsible for brand-building across all of these areas of visual storytelling (video, motion, photography, data visualization) within keynotes to bring harmony and consistency with wider AWS and Event team brand approaches.


They will need to develop an effective creative approach for the team’s diverse content outputs, partner with other creative and marketing teams to help align efforts to product and marketing cycles, and will be ultimately responsible for creating visuals used in keynotes. 


The ideal candidate will have a creative design background, but also have the capacity to understand complex technical topics as they work with the technical leads and writers for keynotes and video initiatives, with the ability to translate these technical and business topics into easy-to-understand visuals. The individual should thrive with a high degree of latitude and demonstrate strong ownership that comes with a small team environment.


Key job responsibilities

  • Work with engineering teams to distill key functionality and benefits into compelling stories told through great visuals and crisp talk tracks
  • Work with outside agencies to create the creative to engage audiences
  • Work with production teams to ensure successful execution on the planned content
  • Travel, in the US and abroad, as necessary to support executive presentations
  • Develops and maintains creative process across the team’s varied editorial, marketing, and event workstreams.
  • Works to align brand and creative strategy to marketing cycles
  • Works closely with marketing and business teams to define success
  • Uses insights to inform future projects
  • Supports operational efficiencies by working to improve processes with mechanisms
  • Oversees audience research via focus groups/surveys as needed
  • Prepares impeccable written recommendations to improve and innovate in customer experience to be shared with senior leadership
  • Understanding of and passion for cloud computing
  • Able to develop and nurture relationships with stakeholders and external agencies, contractors, and vendors
  • Ability to handle changing priorities and use good judgment when working in stressful situations
  • Flexible and experienced in creative project management, able to lead and operate multiple project streams confidently

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years of experience in a senior creative, creative director or similar role
  • Demonstrable track record in producing world class content
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A breadth of experience incorporating strategic thinking into your creative approach
  • Experience driving strategy with multiple teams / stakeholders


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience across channels (broadcast and online video, digital, social, etc.)
  • Experienced creative director who can lead and influence teams cross-functionally to success
  • Advertising or marketing agency experience
  • Ability to think both strategically and creatively
  • Experience with entrepreneurship or a keen interest in developing businesses
  • Interest and/or experience in multiple consumer product categories
  • Thrives in a fast-changing environment and ambiguous situations
  • Impeccable attention to detail, excellent art direction and design sensibility
  • Able to manage multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment
  • Able to conceptualize and execute projects

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $113,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $210,300/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
