Creative Director

We’re seeking a one-of-a-kind wordsmith and creative leader to manage and inspire our copy team. This is a role for an ever-curious verbal identity leader who seizes opportunity, lives to experiment, and boldly finds new ways to connect with people through a B2Human lens.
Reporting to the Creative Director, the Copy Director will lead copy initiatives for Velocity Global across marketing and brand—working on everything from concepting ideas, pitching them, and executing. We’re looking for someone who is a great collaborator, strategic thinker, and passionate about building and maintaining a consistent brand voice across marketing campaigns, digital, email, social, events and so much more. The Copy Director will lead a team of writers and content editors, and foster creative inspiration and fresh ideation while ensuring writing is accurate, on-brand, and engaging for our customers.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead creative thinking and concepting in partnership with Creative and Brand counterparts to develop copy that resonates with Velocity Global’s audiences (both internal and external.)
- Lead a team of high performing copywriters—reviewing their work and providing guidance to advance the ideas best aligned to the creative brief and project scope.
- Direct the copy team through daily deliverables such as writing and editing of persuasive copy for cross-channel campaign assets including sales materials, thought leadership, video/motion graphics, infographics, web copy, social media, and email.
- Contribute to the overall Creative team vision, roadmaps, ideation, and creative strategy.
- Get immersed in Velocity Global’s research, cultural insights, competitor messaging and industry trends to deepen customer understanding and speak authentically to appeal to the emotions of our audience.
- Apply critical and conceptual thinking to brand and marketing strategies to develop smart, friendly and inspirational language that fits with the Velocity Global brand voice.
- Oversee the development of campaign copy for landing pages, social media, paid media, branded events, and other brand experiences.
- Inspire and motivate the Copy team to consistently produce exceptional concepts and final work that deliver on strategic objectives.
- Evolve Velocity Global’s writing style and work closely with the Director of Brand Strategy to uncover imaginative ways to strengthen our brand voice.
- Manage workloads to maximize productivity of the copy team, ensuring that everyone is busy and working on projects suited to their strengths and are appropriately challenging.
- Partner with Creative Operations to refine and scale critical Copy processes.
- Develop strong, collaborative relationships with stakeholders across the organization.
- Work with the Brand Team leads to develop written content for our employer brand and internal communications.
- Build and nurture an exceptional team of copywriters and editors—hire and manage fulltime and freelance writers, assign projects and develop team skills across long and short form content.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Advertising, Communications, Fine Arts or other related field preferred.
- 8+ years of copy experience in campaign, brand, and product with a proven track record of messaging strategy development and execution.
- 3+ years experience leading or managing a copy or editorial team in a high-growth, B2B, SaaS or tech environment.
- You have an established portfolio that displays integrated campaigns and effective, compelling B2C writing.
- Your love for storytelling helps the development of engaging brand messaging that helps distinguish Velocity Global in the market.
- You’re a skilled writer and editor with a keen grasp of language, advertising trends, and an eye for detail.
- You’re a seasoned pro at developing copy at scale, across multiple countries, and working with field marketers on localization strategies.
- Experience overseeing the creative development of marketing campaigns from ideation to final copy.
- In depth experience with corporate marketing and branding and a clear understanding of marketing strategies and concepts.
- A deep understanding of visual and verbal relationships to ensure that all elements creatively complement each other.
- Strong interpersonal, leadership, communication, and diplomacy skills.
- Ability to interpret both strategy and creative direction.
- Experience writing short-form, long-form, and journalistic copy.
- Must have strong proofing/copy-editing skills.
