Corporate Communications Associate

Goleta, CA

We’re looking for a self-motivated Corporate Communications Associate to support our internal and external communications as part of our growing Global Communications team. You’ll play a key role driving our thought leadership around the future of work and company culture and will support our global company, ESG, and leadership communications. You’ll be a critical partner to cross-functional teams across the company including CSR, DEI, Deckers Gives, HR, social media, PR and C-suite comms, and be an advisor to some of our most senior leaders. Your Impact

The primary functions of this role, include but are not limited to:

CORPORATE COMMUNICATIONS CONCEPTING, WRITING, AND EDITING 

  • Collaborate with the Global Communications Team to conceptualize, write, and edit communication assets including presentations, speaking points, web copy, emails, invitations, video scripts, social media, press releases, and articles 
  • Provide edits and feedback on communications drafted by other partners  
  • Give input on overall strategy and tone


BUILDING AND EXECUTING ON COMMUNICATIONS PLANS  

  • Work closely with the Global Communications Manager to build and execute on a variety of campaigns and projects  
  • Ensure documentation of projects  
  • Assist with timeline and deliverables  
  • Maintain communications calendar 


COORDINATING WITH INTERNAL CLIENTS AND PARTNERS

  • Meet frequently with internal clients to identify communications needs 
  • Field requests and assess priority and scope level, in conjunction with Global Communications Manager  
  • Lead occasional meetings with communications partners 


ADMINISTRATING VARIOUS COMMUNICATIONS PLATFORMS  

  • Oversees day to day operations, implementation, and organization of internal communications platforms such as Cerkl, the HUB, and digital signage  
  • Maintain accurate and efficient audience distribution lists  
  • Keep communications tools orderly and effective by helping develop processes for intake and project management  


SUPPORTING CORPORATE INITIATIVES SUCH AS EXECTIVE BRANDING AND ALL HANDS 

  • Provides input on tone of leadership communications, considering how to best position their personal brands  
  • Provides input on content for quarterly All Hands meetings  
  • Works with Investor Relations and Legal on occasional crisis communications

  • You enjoy working hard with a smart and talented team and are comfortable speaking up and making your opinion heard. 
  • You are a creative, flexible problem solver who loves to write, optimize and adjust copy to resonate with the target audience. 
  • You have an attention to detail, a level of consistency and creativity that enables you to generate work products with minimal guidance or supervision. 
  • You have an understanding of organizational processes and a knack for improving them, identifying and filling gaps where needed 


We’d love to hear from people with

 

Education/Certifications: 

Bachelor's degree in Communications, PR, Organizational Psychology, or related field 


Work Experience: 

  • 3+ years of writing/editing/proofreading experience in corporate communications, journalism, publishing, public relations, marketing or related field (writing sample required) 
  • Comfortability with both short and long form copy writing  
  • Familiarity with platform management for web and email 


Skills/Competencies: 

  • Conceptual, creative thinker with a passion for writing, storytelling, and the willingness to learn from others 
  • Ability to lead and drive discussions/conversations with executives 
  • Exceptional project management, organization, strategic planning, and analytical skills 
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office 
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, flexing environment 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills 
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
