Continuous Improvement Technician – Columbus, OH

 

Shift: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30PM


Job Purpose and Context:

Facilitate implementation and daily execution of the Mars Supply Excellence (MSE) program and Continuous Improvement (CI) activities. This associate will be the subject matter expert for MSE related skills in a specific production area and be the lead for tasks such as: Problem solving / root cause identification, focused improvement, Autonomous Maintenance (AM), performance KPIs and related performance boards. This associate will report to the Continuous Improvement Manager.

 

The successful candidate must be capable of working with associates in varying levels of the organization with a team focus to deliver the expectations of this role. Must have the capability of working in a plant-based environment and connecting with shop floor associates to understand processes and systems, understand process deviation and develop effective strategies to the Value Stream Manager, Continuous Improvement Team and Site Director to transform and improve the plant environment. The associate must be able to develop others who are indirectly reporting and coach these associates while balancing and challenging changes in systems and processes to deliver overall business value.

 

What are we looking for?

  • High School Diploma with 2-3 years of relevant experience is Minimum Requirement
  • B.S. in Engineering Preferred (Industrial, Mechanical, Chemical, etc)
  • Preferred skills in Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Lean and solid root cause analysis
  • Experience with Total Productive Maintenance implementation and Lean tools preferred

 

What would be your key responsibilities?

  • Implement focused improvement projects in conjunction with the FI pillar and Continuous Improvement teams, directed at equipment stops reduction and waste reduction
  • Perform root cause analysis on process interruptions by leading and teaching small group of associates via Mars problem solving tools
  • Build the Autonomous Maintenance (AM) and Problem Solving capability of site associates through training sessions
  • Identify potential unsafe conditions and make improvement recommendations
  • Identify potential food safety risks and make improvement recommendations
  • Interact with engineering, operations and maintenance teams to improve equipment efficiency, as well as, eliminate waste
  • Daily involvement with area/equipment AM performance boards. Updating of KPIs daily, evaluation of changing conditions and taking appropriate corrective actions
  • Ensure that area/equipment performance boards are aligned and in agreement with the Factory Mars Operating System (FMOS) performance boards
  • Proactively implement 5S best practice standards as required
  • Participate and lead the implementation of AM activities, as well as, development of Autonomous Work Teams (AWT) on new pieces of equipment.
  • Participate and lead the sustainment of AM / AWT on existing pieces of equipment thru health checks, daily / weekly audits and feedback to zone owners.
  • Participate in shift AWT activities and provide AM leadership to associates on shift
  • Utilize downtime tracking data systems such as Traksys to analyze trends and recommend corrective measures
  • Identify critical centerlines for machinery and implement processes, tools and procedures to sustain those centerlines
  • Audit and survey Centerline and CIL (daily / weekly) completion results and provide feedback as necessary to sustain required results
  • Conduct periodic scheduled health checks on equipment modules that have passed Step 3
  • Drive the mindset and methodology to increase “Mean Time Between Failures” (MTBF) and Zero Breakdown culture
