Communications Manager

BAE Systems is hiring a Communications Manager to support our Combat Mission Systems (CMS) business. In this role, the Communications Manager will manage internal communications and collaborate with Communications Leadership to implement timely and effective plans to support business initiatives.

  • This role can be based out of York, PA or Louisville, KY
  • This position is a hybrid role where you will work 3 days onsite and 2 days remote each week, based on business needs
  • There will be 10% - 25% travel


  • Develop and oversee internal communication strategies to support Combat Mission Systems (CMS)
  • Manage internal communications to drive employee engagement, invoke inspiration, and drive messaging for strategic business initiatives
  • Develop strong relationships with senior leadership, functional management, and employees to provide transparency and motivation across the business
  • Provide strategic direction and partner with leadership at all levels on appropriate internal communications strategies to support the success of the business
  • Support key stakeholders on meeting business objectives through messaging and internal communications
  • Develop and execute communications plans in support of strategic business goals
  • Partner with key stakeholders to build and execute strategic communications campaigns
  • Lead innovative approaches to telling the stories of our employees, our mission, and our values
  • Connect with employees and serve as their voice in the room during business discussions
  • Lead responses during times of change and apply lessons learned following execution
  • Serve as leadership’s go-to for internal communications and timely projects
  • Partner leadership to proactively track and measure the performance of the communication vehicles and strategies
  • Develop monthly and quarterly communications measurement report
  • Support mentorship and development opportunities of a high performing team of communicators with inspiration and ingenuity

Required Education, Experience, & Skills 

  • Bachelor's Degree Communications, Journalism, or related field and 8 years work experience or equivalent experience
  • Experience in Communications disciplines: employee communications, executive communications, social media, media relations, community relations, and/or marketing communications
  • Experience in crisis communications and/or change management
  • Extensive knowledge of AP Style
  • Experience working both independently and as a contributing member of a diverse and geographically widespread team
  • Ability to provoke positive engagement from a diverse and widespread workforce
  • Self-starter, problem solver, and bring new ideas and fresh approaches to the team
  • Trustworthy, reliable, and confident managing highly sensitive information
  • Demonstrate executive presence to routinely engage with senior leaders
  • Highly organized and detailed oriented
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills 

  • Experience in DoD Defense Contracting
  • Proactive and eager to continuously learn and develop

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $102800 - $174800

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
