To support this need, the Innovation Communications team is looking for a highly organized, creative, and collaborative Communications Manager to oversee our innovation storytelling program. Someone who can help drive awareness and grow share of voice.  

 

We are looking for someone who has a pulse on the latest communications trends, is interested in experimenting with creative storytelling approaches, and will work closely with our global communications colleagues to bring this work to life across geographies.  

 

As part of the Innovation Communications team, this person will also work closely with the head of Communications for Microsoft Research to support proactive and reactive storytelling for research and incubation projects coming from our global labs.  


Responsibilities 

Innovation storytelling program lead responsibilities include: 

  • Develop process for sourcing and sharing innovative stories within Microsoft. 
  • Collaborate with Microsoft channel owners to amplify innovation stories and look for new opportunities and communication channels to expand reach and grow share of voice. 
  • Lead strategy for a set of announcements and work with our agency partners to execute plans, as well as support global colleagues in their top-tier innovation stories. 
  • Work closely with our data and insights team to measure and report on our overall impact and areas of opportunity.  
  • Maintain awareness of companies, in and outside of tech, that are doing innovative storytelling and share the information and insights with communications colleagues.  

 

Microsoft Research support responsibilities include: 

  • Review media requests and advise researchers on their press and event engagements.  
  • Lead strategic planning and execution for a subset of research stories. 
  • Conduct initial reviews on owned content, including blogs and podcasts, in partnership with the Microsoft Research Outreach team. 
  • Project management for internal Storytelling Workshops. 

 

Qualifications 

  • Minimum five years of communications and/or marketing experience. 
  • Understanding of the media landscape and evolving communications trends. 
  • A curiosity for research topics and comfort with technically complex subjects.  
  • A global mindset and ability to work with and learn from colleagues around the world. 
  • Self-starter that thrives in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment. 
  • Strong written/verbal communication skills; ability to create in a wide variety of presentation and communication formats. 
  • Master collaborator who can manage multiple projects and work with a diverse set of stakeholders.
