The Corporate Affairs & Communications (CA&C) department serves as the voice of and for American Express, with responsibility for Public Affairs & Media Relations, Colleague Communications, Corporate Social Responsibility, and Social Media. Within CA&C, the Corporate Communications team handles communications for American Express’ business strategy and financial performance, brand and reputation, digital innovation, social media communications and the company’s external corporate content strategy.

 

The Communications Design Specialist for the American Express Newsroom will play a pivotal role in crafting and telling our company’s story. This is a new role on the Corporate Communications team reporting to the Vice President Content and Managing Editor of the American Express Newsroom. This is an exciting opportunity to drive innovation in how American Express communicates its key priorities and initiatives in a visual format.

 

The person in this role will be responsible for designing, producing and posting content for American Express’ external corporate channels, including the American Express Newsroom. This person will contribute to the visual identity of the American Express Newsroom and create design guidelines and processes. The person in this role will work closely with the American Express Newsroom and social media teams, as well as partners in colleague communications and external communications to effectively illustrate the company’s many stories.

 

Specifically, we are looking for someone with graphic design experience and the ability to conceptualize, design and execute high-quality, on-brand creative as well as a passion for the American Express brand, a collaborative attitude, and the ability to think creatively and drive results. This role requires an understanding of various visual mediums (graphic design, photography, video, motion graphics) and the ability to produce innovative, insight-driven content. The Communications Design Specialist should feel comfortable working on tight deadlines and with an agile approach.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Design, produce and post content for American Express’ external corporate channels, including the American Express Newsroom.
  • Liaise with partner hosting American Express Newsroom.
  • Contribute to visual identity of the American Express Newsroom; create design guidelines and processes.
  • Handle content/asset retouching and re-sizing, create presentation templates, and edit videos.
  • Provide art direction to and manage production with photographers, videographers and other partners ensuring all content meets American Express brand guidelines.
  • Participate in editorial planning meetings and contribute to content calendar.
  • Follow processes for proofing and enforce brand standards. 
  • Remain up to date with emerging platforms, trends and best practices and regularly share your perspective.
  • 3+ years of graphic design experience.
  • Expert knowledge and experience in graphic design, art direction, photography, video conception, and UX/UI digital technology.
  • Excellent eye for typography, layout, color and editorial sensibility.
  • Understanding of brand narrative and storytelling.
  • Interest in new design trends and tools to meet evolving audience behavior.
  • Strong time management and project management skills; ability to work confidently under tight deadlines while paying close attention to detail.
  • Exceptional collaboration skills and an ability to build relationships with a wide range of internal partners.
  • Willingness to dive into new opportunities and work with a "no task is too small" attitude.
