Communication Specialist

Omaha, NE

The internal communication specialist supports Kiewit’s employee communication strategies through their role on the Corporate Communication team. This individual should be adept at developing and executing results-driven communication plans and supporting content that solves problems, closes communication gaps and/or initiates change.

LOCATION

This position is based out of Kiewit's headquarters at 1550 Mike Fahey Street. This is a shared service center in a professional office setting.


RESPONSIBILITIES

This individual will work closely with internal clients and leaders across the company’s business units, including HR, benefits, recruiting, and the company’s operating districts and leadership.


A successful candidate will have strong writing and editing skills and enjoys building strategies and crafting content that drives those strategies toward results. They are adept at managing multiple responsibilities while working collaboratively with business partners at all levels as a communication consultant. Experience in employee communication and project management will be an important asset to the candidate. Kiewit demands a person with high attention to detail and time management skills to consistently meet deadlines. 


Essential Functions:

  • Serve an integral role in the development and execution of the company's global internal communication strategy to help Kiewit reach its business objectives and deliver against key priorities. 
  • Support the company’s Human Resources business strategies through targeted communication, planning and execution to influence employee behaviors, inform employees about key Kiewit people-focused initiatives and improve operational performance.
  • Develop and use effective, results-focused internal communication tools as part of the overall mix of solutions; ensure the consistent flow of key messages through all internal communication vehicles.
  • Manage communication for key internal organizational changes by preparing and implementing communication strategies and materials.
  • Research and employ key metrics to regularly assess the effectiveness of all internal communication.
  • Serve as a valued writing resource for Corporate Communication, including delivering content for the company’s internal news site and its flagship publication, Kieways magazine.
  • Leverage and help manage key internal technologies – including content management systems (SharePoint and WordPress) and internal social media platforms – to improve information sharing and collaboration. 
  • Work with other internal communication consultants and outside writing, video and design vendors.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent copywriting and storytelling skills along with a strong attention to detail. A portfolio of recent work is required. Two or three writing samples preferred. 
  • Proficient in Associated Press Style
  • More than 3 years of communication experience, focusing on employee communication.
  • A bachelor's degree is required (journalism, communication or related field strongly preferred). 
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Microsoft Word and PowerPoint required, Excel desired)
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (Some Premiere Pro, InDesign and/or Photoshop desired)
  • The ability to take a communication plan from concept to conclusion while measuring its effectiveness.
  • Previous track record of successfully meeting deadlines and project expectations.
  • A strong understanding of good client relations, consulting as subject matter expert
  • Ability to work closely, on a daily basis, with internal and outside professionals on a project team
  • Ability to work non-standard office hours, as necessary, and travel when/if required
  • Experience with a broad range of communication mediums (e.g., print, video, social media) and able to use them strategically to influence and inform important stakeholders.
  • Marketing experience is helpful.
