Marsh McLennan Agency (MMA) is seeking a Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) to lead its global compliance program.
What you can expect:
Reporting to the Marsh & McLennan Agency General Counsel, you will be responsible for advising senior management at MMA about risk and compliance issues, and leading a team of colleagues across the United States.
The Legal, Compliance and Public Affairs (LCPA) department promotes a culture in which ethical, lawful, and risk mindful behavior is encouraged and reinforced. LCPA develops and implements policies and procedures, systems and controls, training and communications, monitoring activities, and management reporting to prevent, detect and respond to violations of law and company policies.
We will count on you to:
- Foster an environment where colleagues feel comfortable speaking up and raising concerns.
- Serve as trusted advisor to senior leadership at MMA on array of risk and compliance issues related to its commercial insurance, employee health and benefits, personal lines and retirement service offerings, as well as to licensing, surplus lines, professional standards, transparency and disclosure, privacy and data protection, and M&A due diligence and integration, while maintaining a perspective that is both independent of and sensitive to commercial objectives.
- Stay abreast of regulatory developments that impact the commercial insurance and health and benefits industry ; identify implications and propose suitable and pragmatic solutions that align to strategic business plans whenever possible.
- Inspire and develop talent, with an emphasis on inclusion and diversity, empathy, and resilience.
- Collaborate effectively with operational colleagues to implement process change and promote compliance with applicable law.
- As part of an ongoing effort to identify, mitigate and manage risk, lead the MMA Risk Committee and align to compliance and enterprise risk management frameworks established by the MMC enterprise.
- Develop working relationships with key regulatory authorities built on a commitment to transparency and disclosure.
- Represent MMA in interactions with regulators, and in industry associations and events such as National Association of Insurance Commissioners meetings, Surplus Lines Law Group, and Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers.
What you'll need to have:
- The ability to inspire, to lead, and to develop the best in members of the MMA Compliance team.
- Excellent communication skills: the ability to produce accurate, clear, and persuasive communications, both oral and written, enhanced by a willingness to experiment with novel ways of engaging colleagues.
- Detailed knowledge of laws applicable to MMA in areas such as rebating, referral fees, and surplus lines; trade sanctions; cybersecurity, data protection and privacy; conflicts of interest and services provided to insurers; and third party risk.
- Experience interacting with regulatory authorities in examinations, enforcement proceedings, or investigative contexts, and in conducting internal investigations as needed.
- Minimum of 10 years relevant industry experience. Open to considering individuals with legal, compliance or operational experience.

Marsh McLennan is committed to hybrid work, which includes the flexibility of working remotely and the collaboration, connections and professional development benefits of working together in the office. All Marsh McLennan colleagues are expected to be in their local office or working onsite with clients at least three days per week. Office-based teams will identify at least one “anchor day” per week on which their full team will be together in person.
The applicable base salary range for this role is $208,100 to $343,300.
The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
