DESCRIPTION:

  • Evaluates the chemical and physical properties of various organic and inorganic substances in order to investigate their applications to industry 
  • Conducts research, analysis, synthesis, and experimentation on substances for such purposes as process development and application, quantitative and qualitative analysis and improvement of analytical methodologies
  • Devises new equipment, and develops formulas, processes and methods

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Devise new equipment, and develop formulas, processes and methods for solution of technical problems
  • Induce changes in composition of substances by introduction of heat, light, energy and chemical catalysts
  • Develop and maintain a colorfastness database
  • Conduct research on manufactured products to develop and improve products and research composition, structure, properties, relationships, and reactions of matter
  • Confers with scientists and engineers regarding research and prepares technical papers and reports
  • Prepares standards and specifications for processes, facilities, products and tests
  • Design trials and experiments to lead the area toward continuous improvement
  • Plan sequence of testing and calibration procedures for instruments and equipment and calibrates test instruments according to specifications
  • Prepares chemical solutions for use in processing materials, following standardized formulas or experimental procedures
  • Negotiate critical and controversial issues with top-level scientists and officers of other organizations
  • Perform other functions as required

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor’s degree and knowledge in a related Chemistry or Chemical Engineering field
  • Excellent working knowledge of management process, development and budget
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals and financial reports and perform a variety of tasks
  • Effectively present information to management
  • Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field8 to 10 years of experience in the field or related area
  • Experience involving sophisticated electronic instrumentation in a laboratory or closely related facility
  • A variety of experience in the field’s practices and procedures
  • Extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals

  • Excellent verbal, written communication, problem-solving capabilities and be detail oriented
  • Wide degree of creativity and latitude for independent action and judgment
  • Ability to provide consultation on complex projects and use a wide degree of creativity and latitude
  • Must be able to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems
