What impact you’ll make 

The Chemical and Environmental Specialist is responsible for implementing and maintaining the GE Gas Power (GP) Environmental program areas (air, water, hazardous waste, and chemical management) to ensure that all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements are met. 


The role will be part of the GP Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Center of Excellence (COE) team working closely with operations, value streams, regional leaders, and cross-functional teams to drive excellence with GE EHS and customer expectations to support the GP organization and business priorities.


What impact you’ll make 

  • Provide technical advice and direction on chemical and environmental challenges, regulatory changes, and risk areas across the GP value streams.
  • Develop, update, modify, and implement GP Chemical and Environmental programs and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and lead training programs for assigned Chemical and Environmental program areas.
  • Support facilities on implementation of requirements for reporting, licensing / permitting efforts to ensure regulatory compliance including but not limited to air, water, waste regulatory standards (RCRA, EPCRA, SPDES, and Title V.)
  • Support GP value stream sites permitting and emissions inventory calculations for air, water, waste media areas as required.
  • Provide EHS guidance and support for all Chemical and Environmental elements of the GP EHS Management systems.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge and ability to interpret existing, new, and proposed environmental regulations (local, state, and federal) for chemical and environmental media areas.
  • Modify and implement compliance tracking programs and record keeping systems to assure compliance.
  • Partner with the Gas Power EHS value streams to evaluate facility EHS conditions during compliance and program audits to assess risks and develop appropriate corrective-action plans.
  • TSCA reporting and chemical management compliance
  • Support the COE EHS Audit Manager and EHS Management Systems and Certification Manager in the risk-based auditing program to assess regulatory and permit compliance across the GP value streams.
  • Support the COE EHS Supplier Responsibility Governance Leader in the monitoring and continued compliance and improvement of suppliers as needed.
  • Support the GP COE Environmental Sustainability Manager in the assessment of GP properties information and data to meet the GP sustainability KPI metrics and goals.
  • Contribute to relevant GE supplier initiatives to promote social, environmental, health and safety standards and drive carbon and resource initiatives within our supplier community.
  • Track Gas Power progress against EHS metrics and goals.
  • Utilize LEAN methodology to drive simplification and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with local regulatory agencies.
  • Other duties as assigned.


What you’ll bring (Basic Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in EHS, SRG(Supplier Resource Guidelines) and/or Sustainability


What will make you stand out

  • Post graduate degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Strong experience with Chemical Management (export and import)
  • Strong experience and knowledge of global Environmental Regulations
  • Understands Ethical, Environmental, and Social Responsibility and the relation with supply chain.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Advanced experience and competency using Microsoft Office and other standard applications, web-based systems and databases and ability to learn new systems, as required
  • Experience with procedural development, implementation and/or quality management systems (QMS)
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision (self-starter)
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent customer service and time management skills
  • Strong problem solving and organizational skills

For U.S. based candidates only, for purposes of complying with U.S. pay transparency requirements, the base pay range for this position is $99,200.00 - 146,000.00 USD annually. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, geographic location, and skill set. 


This position is also eligible for a 10% annual performance bonus. This position will stay open on the career website until at least 3/11/2024.


The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%,120% or 130% of salary in certain areas.
