Biologist

Bellevue, WA

Major multidisciplinary engineering firm is looking for a 10-15 year Biologist to support a major program with Bonneville Power Administration. Candidate can sit out of Boise, Portland, Seattle, or Bellevue. Must have at least five years of experience supporting environmental documention and permitting with the state of Washington or Oregon. Must have had previous field experience with wildlife species and habitats in the Pacific Northwest, West, and Intermountain West. Candidate will have applied knowledge of ecological assessment, environmental impact analysis, environmental due diligence studies, natural/biological resources management and habitat conservation planning. Some travel will be required to be present on project sites. Master's degree is preferred but minimum Bachelor's in Environmental Science, Biology, Natural Resource Management or relevant field of study is required.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee wildlife surveys and habitat evaluations and prepare reports based on findings
  • Mentor and manage mid-level and entry level biologists
  • Analyze potential impacts on biological resources for a variety of projects working with GIS staff
  • Engage with regulatory agencies to achieve regulatory compliance
  • Contribute as an author and/or strategic advisor on environmental planning documents such as NEPA Environmental Impact Statements or Environmental Assessments, critical areas reports, biological evaluations/assessments, monitoring reports and develop mitigation plans and documents to address project impacts.
  • Provide QA/QC review of technical documents prepared by others.
  • Support project managers and other technical staff with client-agency communications.
  • Develop proposals for biological-related tasks (preparing scopes, schedules, and budgets)

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

Must Have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Natural Resource Management or relevant field of study. Master’s degree preferred.
  • At least ten years of experience ofenvironmental documentation and permitting experience
  • At least 5 years of experience with environmental review and permitting projects in Oregon, Washington, and/or Idaho. Strong Emphasis on Oregon and Washington
  • Field experience with wildlife species and habitats in the Pacific Northwest
  • Applied knowledge of ecological assessment, environmental impact analysis, environmental due diligence studies, natural/biological resources management and habitat conservation planning.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office
  • Experience with GPS equipment and ArcGIS or similar mapping programs
  • Thorough understanding of NEPA, Endangered Species Act, and Other state/local permits in WA, OR, and/or ID
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Field data collection expertise in wildlife species, habitat, and wetlands and streams using GPS units.
  • Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS), Certified Environmental Professiona
