Audience Development Strategist

We’re looking for an experienced Audience Development Strategist to join us full-time on the No Plans, Inc. (NPI) team during an exciting and foundational time in our company’s growth.

Serving our audience and community the content and products that they want and need is the north star for our business. The Audience Development Strategist will be responsible for owning the growth of a hyper-engaged and loyal community of readers, in order to build a next-generation audience company.

This is a rare opportunity to join an industry-leading, community-centered company on the brink of exponential growth — and you’d be driving that growth and building the playbooks with us to reimagine what community-centric, community-powered growth can really look like. At No Plans, Inc., we look to build and grow *with* our community in creative ways (i.e. you won’t be dumping all of the budget into Facebook ads ;)) that emphasize our strengths in storytelling and connection.

As the Audience Development Strategist, you will be working across a broad range of areas: audience development/list growth, partnerships, data and analytics, strategy, and new product launches.

The Audience Development Strategist will report to the Senior Director, Partnerships & Marketing and closely collaborate with the Senior Director, Audience & Content Strategy.

As of this posting, our team is fully distributed and working from home, though our headquarters are in Washington, D.C. We have teammates in D.C., NYC, LA, and Boston and are open to remote candidates based in the U.S.

What you'd be working on:

  • Develop, own, and execute our audience development strategy, including acquisition, segmentation, conversion, A/B testing, deliverability, retention, engagement, and funnel optimization for our newsletter(s)
  • Establish, own, and execute multi-channel growth strategies
  • Work with company leadership to set growth KPIs and overall strategy, key initiatives, and a clear roadmap
  • Develop exciting and comprehensive acquisition campaigns across channels
  • Superpower our teams with analytical knowledge, translating data into actionable insights for growth and engagement across our brands and channels
  • Establish and own metrics-gathering, analytics, and reporting, working across teams to establish best practices, KPIs, and dashboards
  • Collaborate and strategize with leadership on new newsletter launches and product launches
  • Proactively identify opportunities to grow and retain our audience
  • Proactively identify ways to optimize performance for NPI's advertiser partners

What your first 3 months will look like:

  • To start, you’ll be focused on ambitiously growing the Girls’ Night In newsletter audience, while maintaining our reader engagement. Your first 3 months may look like: conducting a growth strategy audit, building out a company growth metrics dashboard, and quickly testing and executing short-term growth strategies for growing the newsletter audience. You’ll consult the team on how to best approach an upcoming new newsletter product launch, optimizing for high reader engagement.

What would set you up for success:

  • 5-6+ years of experience in audience development, or growth roles within early-stage, fast-growing media, consumer, or e-commerce companies
  • You have a proven track record and experience growing and managing a newsletter/media audience, with all the deep nuances involved with list management, segmentation strategy, A/B testing, ESP’s, etc.
  • You have familiarity with MailChimp, and/or other CMS or ESP platforms.
  • You pride yourself on your ability to self-organize, ruthlessly prioritize, and over-communicate.
  • You’re a self-starter, extremely detail-oriented, and someone that can be counted on to get things done proactivelyYou have deep analytical experience and can drive data-driven strategies across an entire funnel.
  • Expert level understanding of Google Analytics and/or other analytics tools such as Google Data Studio, Excel, etc.
  • You’re an excellent written communicator.
  • You understand the value of a hyper-engaged community of readers
  • You know that developing an audience and customer base isn’t purely transactional, it’s an ongoing personal and emotional dialogue that centers the reader and/or customers’ needs.
  • You have a deep curiosity for the intersection of content and growth; you collaborate really well with editorial and audience engagement teams
  • You’re resourceful and unafraid to go deep on a topic, do your own research, and level-up your own skills as-needed.
  • You’re a team player and you have experience deeply collaborating with different departments and partners, both internal and external (developers, agencies, freelancers).
  • You’re excited to join a company at the early stage: you know that things will move fast, pivots will happen, and you’ll be owning and driving strategy while also getting in the weeds, rolling up your sleeves, and “getting things done” as-needed.
  • You value empathy, diversity, curiosity, community, and collaboration.
  • You care about our mission to help people relax, recharge, and live a well-curated life

Please be sure to submit a cover letter in your application form.

It is important that all prospective job candidates are aware of our company values and of our commitment to building an inclusive company culture. As a non-Black, WOC-led (Asian/Latinx-led) organization, we acknowledge that the realities of white supremacy, hetero/cis-normativity, and patriarchy, work in tandem to oppress both people and planet; and that through our own proximity to power, we have benefitted from systemic inequity.
