Who You Are: 

Museum of Ice Cream is looking for an Associate Show Set Designer (Technical Focus) with a Themed Entertainment background, to join the Design team. Using a variety of techniques and tools, an Associate Show Set Designer will work with the Senior Designer, Technical Designer and/or Producer and the rest of the D&P team in the development of our exhibits, facilities and overall location development. Using an introductory level of creative, technical, and architectural knowledge and understanding the candidate will assist the design team in developing the overall Show Set Packages.


Your Day-to-Day:

  • As directed by the Senior Designer, Technical Designer, the Producer, and the rest of the Design Team you will assist in the development, organization and assembly of an overall exhibit experience, high quality show set design package. The show set package articulates the Project’s creative design intent and details the various show elements of a location, such as scenery, special effects, show action equipment, animated figures, props, animated props, audio equipment, lighting equipment etc..
  • As directed by the Senior Designer and Technical Designer you will assist in the creation and coordination of the technical elements within our exhibits and show packages. This includes but is not limited to, custom show set pieces, architectural coordination/verification, preliminary tech design and build drawings etc. 
  • Organizes in-house and external design resources. With the rest of the Design and Production team, with a focus on documentation. This includes, but is not limited to - aligning AOR CAD files with Rhino 3D models, importing and exporting between CAD formats, comprehensive understanding of reading architectural and component designs, etc.
  • During design, maintains document file structure and ensures the Show Set Package is correctly maintained and updated. 
  • Annotates and translates models, plans, elevations and sections into respective sheets as provided by the design team.
  • Will assist in the Show Set development of miscellaneous activations and experiences that are scheduled throughout the project life cycles. (e.g. marketing activations, overlays, and partnerships)
  • Participate and contribute to concept design and creation of new exhibits


The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $80,000 USD dependent on location and experience.


Requirements

The Necessities and Nice-to-Haves:

  • Proficient skill and comfortability in Rhino, AutoCAD, Adobe Suite, Sketch-Up, and various other 3D softwares
  • Proficiency in Rhino paper space and sheet making, experience working in sheet sets and developing Show Set packages from Concept thru DD phase 
  • Fundamental understanding of fabrication methods and materials
  • An ability and desire to walk the line between technical and creative design work.
  • Willingness and ability to problem solve complex design solution when building new and existing spaces
  • A creative mind and vision that you apply to your work and a passion for building experiences, themed spaces, and new worlds
  • A bachelor’s degree in relative design field, preferably with a focus in architecture, themed entertainment design, set design, or themed construction.
  • 1-2 years of experience in relevant professional workplace
  • Portfolio of drawing sets, renders and previous design work, relative to the position
  • Architectural background a plus 
  • Hands on fabrication experience a plus
  • Ability to travel as needed
