Associate General Counsel

Irving, TX

The Associate General Counsel will provide transactional support to the Company’s television, network and digital business units.  The Associate General Counsel will be responsible for reviewing, drafting and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements, including, but not limited to leases, programming agreements, distribution agreements, video licensing agreements, infrastructure agreements, MSAs, vendor agreements, information technology agreements, IP licenses, non-disclosure agreements, affiliation agreements and other company agreements.  The position also provides the opportunity for legal work in non-contract areas subject to the candidate’s desire and skills. The position is based at the Company's Irving, Texas, headquarters. This is not a remote/work from home position.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:               

  • Reviewing, drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts for the Company’s television, network and digital media operating units.
  • Providing leadership and guidance to all levels of Company management on transactional matters and maintaining good working relationships with appropriate Company personnel to facilitate successful contract negotiations.
  • Researching, understanding, applying and providing guidance on federal and state regulations that are relevant to the Company’s operations.
  • Performing other duties in support of the Nexstar legal department as assigned.


Requirements & Skills:

  • J.D. with 4-6 years’ experience in contract review, including drafting and negotiation of complex commercial and technical agreements at a top law firm and/or in-house legal department.
  • Expertise in information and/or advertising technology, privacy, data security, social media, intellectual property, and regulatory compliance. 
  • Fluency in English.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills, both oral and written; good critical analysis skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple work assignments contemporaneously.
  • Ability to work independently, and with all levels of management.
  • Ability to research without access to Lexis/Westlaw or secretarial/word processing support.
  • Licensed to practice law in the State of Texas.
  • Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment.
