Associate Counsel, Expansion & Strategic Initiatives

As an Associate Counsel at Compass, you will work on exciting matters that require proactive legal guidance. You're part of a group of talented in-house lawyers and the projects you work on challenge you to think creatively and constructively. You are energetic and collaborative -- ready to partner in initiatives that influence all aspects of Compass’s business and work with employees and agents across the company. Your contributions will be impactful, value driven, and you will play an instrumental role on the Compass Legal Team.
At Compass You Will:
- Serve as a corporate generalist, providing advice to a range of business teams at Compass, including matters related to new market entry, strategic programs and third-party partnerships for Compass agents (including the Compass Concierge program), and matters related to Compass’s credit facilities, among other day-to-day matters
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of routine and mission-critical commercial contracts, including product-related agreements
- Assist various business teams (including senior executives) on risk assessment and management, taking into account Compass policies and procedures and business strategy
- Support the continuous improvement of standard form agreements and legal processes at a growing company, with an emphasis on efficiency and scalability
What We Look For:
- Strong academic credentials including a JD and membership in good standing in at least one state bar (NY or CA bar a plus)
- 2+ years at top-tier law firm, in-house legal department, and/or government agency advising on complex corporate and commercial matters, including any of the following: M&A, debt and/or equity financings, IP licensing, and/or bankruptcy and restructuring
- Excellent analytical, consulting, drafting and negotiation skills with the ability to clearly explain complex ideas
- A team player with low ego who can effectively work with other legal professionals
- A willingness to learn new areas of law, acquire new skills, and take on additional responsibilities
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
