The Contract & Payment Administration (CPA) team supports the live action Film Business & Legal Affairs (BLA) team, based in Los Angeles. CPA is responsible for ensuring all Above-The-Line (ATL) talent are paid timely and properly and we calculate and track a variety of important obligations, dates, and deadlines in connection with our live action films. 


This a highly cross-functional Associate role, and the successful candidate must have the ability to work effectively with the BLA team, Labor, Tax, Production Management, IP Legal, Creative and Production Finance teams, in addition to our accounting teams, and will also act as a strategic thought partner to those cross-functional teams as we innovate and experiment with new deal structures. ​


This role will support Netflix’s Film BLA team in many facets of business and legal affairs, including liaising with internal cross-functional teams, review, research, tracking of rights & options, and ATL payment schedules & authorizations.


The goal of this role is to be the legal professional expert for their suite of projects (i.e., they will have a detailed and comprehensive understanding of the project and related deal info) from development through launch.


Requirements:

  • At least 4+ years of business and legal affairs experience at a law firm, production company, studio, or network and/or experience in production payroll, production finance, or contract and payment administration;
  • Experience in drafting and issuing relevant legal notices, including options, reversion period, and preempt & non-preempt letters. Experience with reviewing & tracking deal data/contract management. Paralegal experience is a plus;
  • Ability to ​read, ​understand, and summarize legal contracts with an emphasis on deadline and payment triggers while having the ability to articulate issues using​ Creative, Production Management, and Production Finance context;
  • Solid understanding of the payroll & accounts payable process and relevant provisions of above-the-line union agreements (e.g., DGA, WGA, SAG-AFTRA) is a plus;
  • Flexibility and openness to take on additional projects as necessary or assigned;
  • Ability to work proactively, independently, and reliably under tight timeframes in a fast-paced environment;
  • High level of organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize and time-manage across multiple deadlines;
  • Fluency with the Google Suite, Acrobat, Microsoft Word and Excel;
  • Highly collaborative, resourceful, quick thinking, curious, and calm under pressure, solution-oriented;
  • Positive attitude and an ability to respond positively to change and be open to and respectful of new ideas and constructive feedback, excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Good judgment, strong critical thinking skills, and the desire and willingness to take ownership and control of complex projects;


Responsibilities: 

  • Perform review, research, and analysis to understand, extract, track, and share important contract terms (e.g., financial obligations, option reporting, pay schedules, pay authorizations, etc.);
  • Drafting, reviewing, and redlining various legal notices
  • Tracking responsibilities - review, extract, and track key rights, obligations, and options including tracking IP/rights options, actor options, optional pictures, and any other important time-bound rights, tracking lapsed options, uploading any extensions, notices, and amendments into internal tools;
  • Input final closed deal financial information from long form agreements (or final closed deal documentation) into internal tools. For Partner Managed Productions, in real-time (and prior to launch in any event), pull high level ATL agreements from internal systems (requesting from outside parties where required) and upload/input into internal tracking systems.
  • Responsible for liaising, sourcing, tracking, reviewing, and organizing legal, payment, and production documentation for assigned titles;
  • Ensure ATL payroll start paperwork is received, complete,​ and accurate. As well as safeguard sharing of personally identifiable information (PII), and securely filing it;
  • Maintaining flexibility and openness to take on additional projects as necessary or assigned;
  • Assist in developing​ operational efficiencies with the Information Management team by collaborating, testing​, and implementing new workflows and/or technologies that can provide the next generation of ​contract management.

Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range.


The range for this role is $70,000 - $350,000.
