Area Vice President, Cardiorenal & Women's Healthcare

Bayer's US Pharmaceuticals division is undergoing a major transformation in our operating model and customer engagement approach to better serve our patients and customers and achieve 'Health for All'. The Area Vice President, Cardiorenal & Women's Healthcare (AVP - CVR & WHC) will help lead our customer engagement transformation supporting cross-functional Cardiorenal (CVR) and Women's Healthcare (WHC) field teams (customer squads) in transitioning to our new Area Business Unit structure and operating model and succeeding within highly competitive markets and our evolving healthcare ecosystem.

 

Reporting directly into the Head of Customer Engagement, the AVP - CVR & WHC is tasked with successfully delivering our vision of Health for All by leading a diverse team of CVR and WHC Area General Managers in a select region (West, Central or East) and helping to establish and execute the strategic vision for our Customer Engagement organization.


The AVP - CVR & WHC will manage a broad portfolio that includes CVR treatments (for Pulmonary Hypertension, Chronic Kidney Disease and investigational indications for heart failure with reduced and preserved ejection fraction, and thrombosis) as well as our WHC products and pipeline assets (in-market intrauterine devices and a non-hormonal therapy for menopause symptoms currently in development.)

 

The individual in this role will have primary responsibility to deliver on ambitious revenue growth and profitability targets across our CVR and WHC commercialized product portfolio, while preparing for future commercialized product launches. Additionally, the role will maintain and enhance Bayer's reputation for excellence in culture, products, and customer centricity across the CVR and WHC ecosystems.

 

The AVP - CVR & WHC will sit on the Customer Engagement leadership team, and work closely with their AVP counterparts, along with key leaders in our US Pharmaceuticals Headquarters (e.g., Product Squad Leads, functional leaders of HR, Communications, Medical, Legal).


In this leadership role, the incumbant will have accountability for driving execution of Bayer's CVR and WHC commercial strategies, as well as representing and communicating customer opportunities that can enhance the access and impact of Bayer's CVR and WHC portfolios. S/he will also be responsible for identifying, developing and executing new go-to-market approaches that can enhance Bayer's profitability.

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Primary responsibilities of the role, Strategic Analyst are to:

The AVP - CVR & WHC will be the leader of highly successful Area Business Units, responsible for all brands within the CVR and WHC portfolios. He/she will possess a deep and significant expertise in building relationships with and selling to physicians across the relevant therapeutic areas.


The ideal candidate will lead high impact customer centric teams, driving top and bottom-line growth, while enabling strategy and execution based on regional business demands. Delivery on successful new product launches and attraction & retention of a large cross functional customer team will be necessary.


The AVP - CVR & WHC will develop and implement novel sales force approaches in the US pharmaceutical marketplace, including pull through programs, innovative tactics, and alternative sales models outside of "reach and frequency." 

 

More specifically, the AVP - CVR & WHC will be responsible for the following across our CVR and WHC portfolios: 

  • Develop solutions, working with Area General Managers, to achieve or exceed sales and profitability and be energized by new challenges and the opportunity to optimize, with the goal of highest possible performance. S/he will institute a robust performance-oriented culture, using metrics and processes, with a track record of improving business practices and process; 
  • Lead change initiatives, develop strategies for existing indications, new indications and new product launches. Must leverage approaches that evolve the organization to address changing marketplace dynamics and empower teams to have shared ownership to meet customer needs. The candidate will do more then just articulate a compelling case for change to the team; will motivate others to initiate change;
  • Assess a range of variables including market trends and opportunities, prescription data, competition, etc., to uncover nontraditional improvements to customer engagement and service. In particular, the AVP - CVR & WHC should have a strong customer orientation, with the ability to see and address opportunities with the physician community, either leveraging the sales force or working cross­ functionally with other Bayer colleagues;
  • Collaborate with his/her peers and their teams (e.g. managed markets, medical, marketing, etc.) to ensure implementation of the CVR Franchise and WHC Franchise strategies. The successful candidate will work effectively cross-functionally and cross-culturally, with the ability to influence on both strategic and tactical matters through the sharing of customer feedback, market developments and competitive strategies. In particular, s/he will work with Area Business Units, Market Access, Marketing, Medical, etc. to help drive marketplace impact. Externally, the ideal candidate will be able to establish and build relationships and interact extensively with key opinion leaders, organized customers (e.g. Medical Directors, Hospital executives) and partners in order to optimally position Bayer's CVR Franchise and WHC Franchise products:
  • Coach Area General Managers in their responsibilities to develop and execute on robust regional strategies, implement new solutions and change initiatives, navigate complex customer relationships, empower local teams to identify and capture market opportunities and operate in a lean and fast manner;
  • Support resource shifts across Area Business Units within the region, including across CVR and WHC teams, based on market and customer opportunities. Will also need to communicate and collaborate with other CVR & WHC AVPs to assess and manage competing resource demands across regions to enable our Customer Engagement teams to respond quickly to critical business demands;
  • Act as an inspirational executive, with a proven ability to attract, motivate, and develop professionals, and fuse them into a well­ functioning team. Will help instill ownership and accountability, establish a healthy competitive work environment and build/maintain a high-performance culture. Where necessary, the candidate will actively and swiftly address performance issues. The successful candidate must be a team player who will thrive within Bayer's performance-oriented, accountability culture. Must have a change mind set, with the drive to take on new challenges and contribute not only in his/her direct area of responsibility, but more broadly in whatever way is needed to help the company succeed.

 

WHO YOU ARE

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

Required Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in Cardiorenal and/or Women's Healthcare therapeutic areas is highly valued;
  • Previous cross functional experience (e.g. Sales Leadership, Managed Care, Brand Team/Marketing, Market Access and/or Sales Operations) or related industry experience engaging with key healthcare providers is highly valued;
  • Transformational leadership experience is required of this role, with innate ability to coach, inspire, mentor, attract and develop diverse & inclusive teams;
  • A proven track record of leading and transforming change in the organization;
  • A proven track record of leading organizational change initiatives and major product launches;
  • Experience in developing and/or implementing novel sales force approaches in the US pharmaceutical marketplace, including pull through programs, innovative tactics, and alternative sales models outside of traditional approaches highly valued;
  • Ability to identify strategies with greatest business impact, formulate an appropriate business plan and motivate teams to execute the plan;
  • Thorough understanding of health systems, customer segments, regional market dynamics, and KOL development within all therapeutic areas;
  • Experience in budget responsibility, negotiating for resources, and maximizing the return on investments;
  • A valid driver's license and safe driving record;
  • Willing and able to travel routinely, at times on a weekly basis;
  • Ability to comply with any customer credentialing and safety requirements (e.g., up to date vaccinations, trainings, etc.) and understanding of external laws, codes and company policies that apply to the healthcare industry.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree; MBA or related graduate degree;
  • Minimally 12 years in roles of progressive responsibility within commercial life sciences organization.

 

Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $254,778 to $382,167.  Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc.. This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
