Analytical Scientist

Charlottetown, PE

Reporting to the Director, Analytical Services, Auxly Charlottetown is currently seeking an Analytical Scientist in Charlottetown, PE. The successful candidate will possess practical Chemistry expertise and would be expected to carry out their responsibilities while using state-of-the-art analytical Chemistry equipment. With the support of the Director, Analytical Services, the Analytical Scientist will prepare samples for analyses, execute analytical and testing protocols for various product formats, and perform data analyses and report findings.


The successful candidate will be familiar with the quantitation of analytes using modern Mass Spectrometry (MS) techniques, the preparation of samples for MS analyses, and be able to execute assigned projects and tasks. They will also be able to successfully work in a team environment, interact with external clients and vendors in a courteous manner, and perform their duties in a highly regulated industry utilizing the appropriate departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and Auxly’s LD guidelines.

  • Become a key member of the Analytical Services team at Auxly.
  • Execute and perform analytical testing experiments in support of product development and client needs.
  • Develop and validate analytical methodology using a range of analytical instrumentation.
  • Perform analysis and collect data pertaining to raw materials, in process materials, finished products and stability samples.
  • Plan, perform, and interpret results of experiments and projects, ensure data quality and complete report summaries.
  • Communicate progress of work to peers and mangers in the form of presentations and reports as required.
  • Apply scientific problem-solving skills and utilize all available resources to proactively implement solutions and adopt industry best practices.
  • Work according to the Auxly QMS system to ensure compliance with external and internal regulatory guidelines (e.g. SOP’s, GMP, HSE).
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned and as operationally required.

 

What you bring to the table

  • Graduate degree in Analytical Sciences, a B.Sc. or Biotechnology degree with 3+ years’ experience in a testing and/or research laboratory.
  • Previous practical experience with ICP-MS.
  • Experience interpreting results and summarizing results in scientific reports.
  • Effective time-management skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Continuous Improvement mindset: ability to troubleshoot issues, foresee problems and proactively seek solutions.
  • Must have aptitude and analytical abilities as it applies to running standardized methods such as ASTM tests.

 

What will set you apart

  • Extensive experience using LC-MS/MS, GC-MS/MS and/or ICP-MS for separation and/or quantitation of natural products and other analytes.
  • Experience with development and validation of analytical methodology.
  • In addition to mass spectrometry techniques, work experience with general lab tests including, but not limited to high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC, UPLC and/or Prep HPLC), sample preparation, as well as wet chemistry tests (pH, water content, viscosity, freezing point, titrations etc.)
  • Significant experience sourcing, interpreting, establishing, and running ASTM or Pharmacopeial analytical methods.
  • Practical experience working with internal and external clients in a courteous and effective manner.
