Accounts Payable Lead

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Accounts Payable Lead is responsible for vendor maintenance, purchase orders, credit cards and wire transfers. The A/P Lead is also responsible for ensuring that the weekly, monthly, and annual A/P processing schedules are met.


Pay: $59,759 to $72,666 per year. The typical hiring range for this position is $59,759 to $72,666 based on 100% FTE. The starting salary is determined based on the candidate’s knowledge, skills, and experience.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for vendor set up and maintenance including ACH vendors. Confirm W-9 obtained when needed.
  • Oversee credit card process.
  • Stamp, sort and distribute incoming mail. Discern priority of items to be processed.
  • Assist project staff, administrative personnel and vendors with inquires and solve problems.
  • Process transactions to record domestic and international wire transfers in software.
  • Analyze and prepare credit applications.
  • Investigate and resolve any issues that arise with wire transfers and other payment methods.
  • Assist in the weekly processing of accounts payable through checks, ACH and wire transfer.
  • Assist in the 1099 process and maintenance.
  • Perform vendor account analyses and reconciliations, correct discrepancies.
  • Assist in month end closing.
  • Coordinate software problem resolution with IT.
  • Training of new A/P Staff.
  • Onboarding of new A/P and G&C Staff.
  • Organize, plan and review work performed by A/P staff; provide guidance, training, and motivation of A/P staff.
  • Provide back-up support to Accounts Payable team.
  • Act as department lead in absence of Accounts Payable Manager. Processing pay cycles, reviewing and approving suppliers, and manage rush request.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of related experience, with at least 4 in accounts payable in a high volume environment.
  • Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, finance, or related field, or substitute with 4 additional years of related experience.

  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Detail oriented with strong problem solving skills. Excellent judgment and the ability to identify business issues.
  • Customer service mentality both internally and externally.
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues in other departments.
  • Basic accounting principles knowledge, documentation, and research skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable accounts payable and general ledger systems and procedures, financial chart of accounts and corporate policies, practices and systems.
  • Possess strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to perform mathematical computations quickly and accurately.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, with excellent skills in Excel. Microsoft Access skills are preferred.
  • Experience with PeoplesSoft preferred.
