Environment Specialist

Montréal, QC

Reporting to the Corporate Director of Environment, the Environment Specialist provides regulatory and technical support to Kruger's operations and major projects.


The incumbent plays an active role in implementing appropriate environmental strategies to ensure the Company's environmental compliance. This position is also responsible for identifying and facilitating the transfer of good environmental practices and lessons learned across sites with the aim of maximizing value.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide support relating to management of regulatory and technical environmental issues to the Company's production units and managers.
  • Provide technical and/or strategic support and advice on environmental issues to the Company's various sites, projects, and management teams.
  • Collaborate with site managers to effectively manage non-compliance issues.
  • Collaborate and cultivate strong relationships with industrial associations to contribute positively to Kruger’s positioning and ability to address its various challenges.
  • Participate in the review of the environmental aspects, risks, and opportunities of the various sites and major projects.
  • Ensure that the environmental management strategy is aligned with Kruger's activities and vision.
  • Collaborate in the development and implementation of Kruger’s environmental standards and guidelines and promote environmental excellence across operations.
  • Act as an expert regarding compliance with environmental regulatory requirements.

 

REQUIREMENTS

GENERAL EDUCATION

  • Bachelor of Engineering


EXPERIENCE

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in environment in the industrial sector, preferably in the pulp and paper sector.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of issues, solutions, and effective management strategies for water and air quality, hazardous and residual materials, noise, soil quality, and groundwater.
  • Experience in effluent treatment and air emissions.
  • Experience in data management.
  • Experience with ISO 14001 is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability in project management is an asset.
  • Ability to work with multiple levels within the organization, both as a leader and an individual contributor.

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong knowledge of provincial and federal environmental legislation.
  • Autonomy, resourcefulness and strong ability for analyzing and synthesising information.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and to multitask while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Available to travel to the Company's various locations when required.

 

LANGUAGES

  • Bilingual, oral and written (English and French)


Knowledge of English is required for this specific position as Kruger deals with partners across North America and the successful candidate will be required to communicate frequently with them. Kruger has taken all reasonable steps to avoid imposing English language requirements, including assessing the actual language needs associated with the duties to be performed, ensuring that the language skills already required of other employees were insufficient for the performance of those duties, and limiting as much as possible the number of positions with duties requiring English language skills.
